Day 22

No uses. I’m out of town and have these with me. I swear that I have not used a blade!

My pockets today:

The U-lock key is the only thing here that didn't get used, because the bicycle was never alone outside.

KERmiT sliced a bunch of waxed cotton thread. The Park Tool removed a 2.5mm bolt, and the flashlight helped me find said bolt in the carpet under my desk. The USB stick transported files to a photocopier. The keys opened stuff. The wallet walleted.

Hello day 24.
Investigating some sad looking concrete.
The pliers could remove the stones. Not  very scientific test but tells the story.

Day 23

I feel like I'm skirting around the fuzzy line that divides sharp tools from knives...

Cutting foam with one of the scissor blades:

Hacking a square hole in a board using Swisstool chisel:
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I've seen worse concrete, but that's not a contest with any winners.

I used a 2mm hex key to work out a knot today. It didn't work as well as a corkscrew, an old Wenger awl, or an actual marlinspike, but it got the job done.

The only blades in my computer are the fan blades, so I'm pretty sure the time I spent in The GIMP making these images is still challenge-friendly:

Large and small!

This badge (in two sizes) is straight up just ReamerPunch's image from waaaaaaaay at the beginning of the challenge. I liked his basic idea, so I ran with it. I simplified the image, shrunk it, cleaned it up, and added some text. Then I cropped it, simplified it, shrunk it, and cleaned it up again.

I know we have several days left, so obviously there's a lot of time for other ideas. I may do a few different iterations myself, just for funzies.

Day 23
The YeoCho scissors cut the dog treats for Fisher’s jumpin’ jack.  I also used the combo tool to open a box and a beer.

It seems I cannot count and have my days mixed up
This should be my day 24 pic and I missed day 23 or called it wrong.
Anyway hopefully this will do.
Day 23/24.

Don't worry. If you could see the mangled, tangled mess of file names and numbers in my upload folder, you'd probably run screaming. It's like some kind of Lovecraftian nightmare.

Bad news: your dog is clearly melting in that picture. I know it's very common, but science has yet to find a solution. More pats may help.

Oh yeah — I have a Style PS somewhere. I guess I could've been using that.

So a little while ago, I did some digging on Ebay, and found a Park Tool IB-11. I replaced the slot driver bit with 2mm and 2.5mm hex keys from an old IB-12, because I always have a slot screwdriver around somewhere, and rarely need it for my bicycle anyway. Besides, some of my bike accessories (notably the computer mount and bell) require 2.4mm hex for some weird reason.

For those with better memories than mine, that modified tool was in my Day 0 post on February 28th (well, April 1st, but it wasn't even 1 a.m. yet.)

Shown here with KERmiT, my surprisingly versatile CRKT KERT.

Digging around in a parts box produced a pile of different appropriately-sized steel washers, so I used a non-bladed hex key and a non-bladed 10cm crescent wrench to completely take apart the IB-11, and replace all the not-great nylon washers with metal ones.

In person it looks like a whole new tool.

Then I slathered in the blue thread locker so it won't all fall apart when I'm cranking on some stuck bolt.

Full disclosure: despite all my bicycling-related posts lately, I almost never need a bike tool in my pocket. If a bicycle needs work in the apartment, I have a whole toolbox just for my bike-specific tools, and if it needs work on the road, I have everything I need in my under-saddle tool roll. I just like tools.

That dog is fuzzy.

Well, I mean, of course the dog is fuzzy, but the dog is extra fuzzy because the camera focused right in on those attractive stonewashed scissors.

Oops. Try 2.5mm.

Might be a bit gory, but here's a small pliers I sometimes use for small screws.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!
