Custom parts for multitools
on: February 05, 2021, 08:11:59 PM
I'm starting a new project - custom parts for multitools.  :woohoo:
The first thing that will be made - straight blades for Leatherman Surge (slightly increased in length). It is supposed to be made of various steels - now k110 (about 30 blades) has been purchased.
In parallel, two standard sizes of awls for medium tools (rebar/wave) will be made.
At the moment, the size and shape are being worked out, equipment has been purchased, and the estimated production time of the first trial batch is the end of March 2021.

I will listen to your suggestions on the range of spare parts you need.

I'll follow this too.
If I may add please, a straight blade option for the MUT and Signal will be nice too. Bearing in mind that the Signal grind is not symmetrical though

Received.  Blades for other one-handed opening multitool unparalleled with good steel will be as follows.  Tanto-shaped versions of the blade are also suggested.

Not a spare part, but scissors that could be put into the Skeletool in place of the blade would be awesome.

Very interesting  :like:
I will have a look at my Wave for what would be a great tool to remove the last blade I have left and what would be a good tool to replace the blade to make the Wave a legal carry tool for the UK :tu:

Tell me what are the rules in the UK regarding knives? Should there be a two-handed opening or are there any other restrictions?

The law is a pain in the @#*%
We are not aloud a locking blade of any size and the largest blade we can have is 3 inches but only if it is a folding knife with no locks or one handed opening if you would have a LM for instance with the locking mechanism removed it is still seen as a locking knife because you can’t fold the blade away as the handles get in the way of folding the blade back in the handle  ???

There are several ways going around the law in the UK. If you have a wave just put a washer under the blade and it will knock the liner lock out of action. There are also ways to convert a locking blade to non locking. Problem solved.
On the other hand if you have a valid reason to carry a locking blade (eg work) you will be fine. Just use common sense and don't carry one when not need to, so don't have a pint after work with a wave in your pocket ;).
I'm carrying all sort of tools and blades in the UK and never been checked or stopped by the police. I guess this is because I'm not pulling them out in crowd and don't act as a dumbass.
The law makers fall on the other site of the horse here unfortunately, wanted to stop knife crime with stupid laws and punishing people who would use the knife as a tool..

How about a plain edged blade for a Signal?

Longer blade for the skeletool would be great (there seems to be room for it).

One more vote for a PE blade for the Signal, and a choice between tanto and regular style would be awesome  :tu:.

Have you done a search on Skeletool with scissors mods? There's a few out there...

I’ll look at the links you posted as well as some more.  It is nice to know someone had success, because all the searches I had done on here and another forum, were listing the scissors that didn’t work.

The jigsaw holder would be awesome.  I know Metro makes ones for scalpel blades for in place of the Skeletool blade, but a jig saw holder that could work in a few different tools would be awesome.

Let me share your wishes on the complexity of production (on a 10-point scale):
- Wrenches - 3
- Thinner lanyard ring - 3 (You can use fuse/blast ring)
- Awls - 4
- Plane Blades - 5-8 (Depending on the type of steel)
- Serrated|Semi serrated blades - 6-9 (Depending on the type of steel)
- t-shank jigsaw holder - 7-8
- Pocket clip 8-9
- Scissors - 9-10
- Diamond file - 10+

For greater complexity, more technological operations, knowledge and experience are required. As well as equipment.
