The way my daughter tells it,,,, I'm keeping the internet up and going. In reality I'm keeping Google, Facebook, Amazon and such with enough electrical control to keep their data centers going.

So does that mean the mouse got the original cheese without springing the trap? Talented mouse.

So the mouse got the bait without using tools, but if the mouse had used a SAK he'd have sprung the trap.  Interesting.

Apparently. I didn't set it the first time. I guess we'll see what happens on Monday. Maybe I'll use all the tools on the Champ+ to build increasingly complex Rube Goldberg-esque mouse traps all month.

So far, the Challenge of Champions has taught me that a Champion is huge overkill for EDC in an office environment...not that I didn't know that already :D

I would probably find more uses for the Champ if I were spending more time out at our fabrication shop, but my role has shifted to focus more on engineering and less on fabrication. Fine with me, since I get to actually use my mechanical engineering degree, but my SAKs are getting bored. They're not being called on to scrape tape and/or paint off of pipe tags (the chisel would have come in really handy for that!), trim 2x4's for dunnage on truckloads of pipe (wood saw, obviously), or even dig out splinters (from aforementioned 2x4's).

Hopefully now that spring is here, I will get more chances to use the Champ's tools as I start gardening again. I can already foresee potential uses for the wood saw, file, and even the fish scaler.

But once the Challenge is over, I will probably return to the Explorer as my default EDC SAK.
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

DAY 5  I used the tweezers to remove a few very tiny plant thorns/spines from my work yesterday.  No pics because I don't have three hands.  They were so fine that I really scraped them out rather than grabbing them, so any tool might have worked as well.  Maybe.

I used the small blade to open a box from Beretta.  They sent my 92F locking block in its small box, wrapped in heavy paper, wrapped in those air things, in a large cardboard box.  That's a lot of protection for something you can't break.  ???

Tools used so far:
Lg blade
Sm blade
Tweezers

Challenge of Champions Day 5

Today I took a chance and purchased a Fossil watch in very good condition that presumably had a dead battery. I have never owned a Fossil, so I threw caution to the wind. Well,,, the story did not have a happy ending. After using the can opener to remove the case back, and the small blade to open the battery,,,, I found that I had bought a non-operational watch. So I guess I will start looking for a replacement movement. I also purchased an old mechanical watch to tinker with and see if I can get it running again.

Champion C
1- Large blade check                       13- Small blade check
2- Corkscrew                                    14- Can opener check
3- Small screwdriver                        15- Cap lifter
4- Screwdriver                                  16- Wire stripper
5- Reamer check                              17- Scissors
6- Phillips screwdriver                      18- Magnifying glass
7- Wood saw                                    19- Fish scaler check
8- Hook disgorger                             20- Ruler
9- Nail file                                          21- Metal file check
10- Nail cleaner                                22- Metal saw
11- Fine screwdriver                         23- Keyring
12- Tweezers check                         24- Toothpick

kamakiri - Day 5

Changed to an ‘83 Hoffritz Champion ‘c’ (aka Super  Knife in Hoffritz speak) for today.

:mail: mail call duty of course…and some light help with mods. Metal saw to assist with key ring lug removal (pictured) on an ‘87 Craftsman that’s going into the EDC pile. Also did the scale removal on a ‘13 Champ for parts. One of the mail items was also Hoffritz…so that was just lucky. :)

Day of Challenge / Knife used:
1. Original Black 1984
2. Champion Plus c. ‘05
3. 1974 Red w/o Nickel Silver Shield
4. 1967 Hoffritz Champion B
5. 1983 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife

I caught a fingernail on something which left it torn and jagged.  Of course, the Victorinox scissors worked like a charm.

Day 5

No use today, but maybe that's not a bad thing for a vintage SAK. Today I carried what's likely a 1963 Champion "a". (A big thank you to kamakiri for helping me last Fall to date it.)

I'll carry it again tomorrow so maybe it'll see some action.

Thanks. It's the only translucent blue SAK I have. I wasn't sure about the scales at first, but they've grown on me. Maybe not enough for me to put them on another SAK, but I like them on this one.

I appreciate all and any opportunities to practice dating knives via pictures!

I’ll try to join you tomorrow with something just later than yours like in the ‘64-‘65 range if I can find one in time. I was just digging through more of the ‘70 to mid ‘80s for ones I don’t need to prepare or clean (much) before using.  :)

I almost wrote "it's something you can't break outside of the pistol."  There's no way to break it in shipping unless you pound the box with a sledgehammer.  They packed it like it was made of glass, whereas Amazon has shipped us a glass jar in a large envelope.  The result was exactly what you'd expect.   :twak:
