kamakiri - Day 7

Changed to an ‘86 for Day 7. Opened the mail and packages. Scraped some crud off the blades of a ‘13 Champ. Filed my nails. Shivved a couple of the other inmates. Magnifier inspected some modded parts.

Main identifiers to narrow down to ‘86 are the tapered awl with the eye and the small ‘v’ in the tang stamp. Late ‘86 is the start for the big ‘V’ and ‘85 starts without the eye. ‘Construction’ details and part protocols confirm the ‘86 side of production. Battle Series knives, ‘84 100th Anniversary knives and Apollo 20th confirm expected details for every year within this range and sub-year where possible.

Edit to add Week 1 recap photos

Day of Challenge / Knife used:
1. Original Black 1984
2. Champion Plus c. ‘09
3. 1974 Red w/o Nickel Silver Shield
4. 1967 Hoffritz Champion B
5. 1983 Hoffritz Champion C - 11258 Super Knife
6. 1965 Hoffritz Champion B
7. 1986 Champion C

That is quite the collection.

Day 7

Used the small blade to open several boxes today. No real opportunity for photos at work so have to settle for a pic of the blade.

kamakiri - Day 9

Changed to an ‘89 for Day 9.  Cut the flap of skin from a slice in my thumb I got on Saturday. Used the scissors for that. Opened the mail and packages as usual. Had some issues figuring out what I’d use for some weeding this afternoon instead of my usual pliers…ended up using the scaler. Did pretty well and hey, the hook disgorger already does look like a mini weeding tool.

The ‘89 Champions have a pretty unique construction protocol. Something I noticed that decades of Champions and the preceding 16 years of Champion Cs didn’t have and would never have again. Visible in the pic below, for the eagle-eyed observers.

When you have these challenges, I never know if I should reply privately or put my guess out there for everyone else to see.   :dunno:

Comparing your photo to my '83, it looks like the liner between the opener and mag glass/inline Phillips layers is thicker.

Day 9

Used the big slotted screwdriver as a scaper to scrape some gunk off the kitchen floor. I'd moved the fridge forward to clean behind it and found the gunk.

I could have also used the inline Phillips to remove a couple of screws holding a panel on the bottom, but forgot and used a regular screwdriver.

I’d ask if I wanted any guesses to be private!  I just usually want participation and for others to find or see literally the kinds of things I’m talking about when I start blabbing about SAK chronology and dating. :D

But I do appreciate that you picked up on some of my crazy issues about sharing *everything* I know. :)
