I'm not paying someone an extra dime for this thing. If Leatherman wants to limit how much they make this year, then so be it. This whole process and in fact the whole Garage debacle is putting a bad taste in people's mouths.

Hmmmmm, wonder what the other manufacturers have in stock now that I have money burning a hole in my pocket and Leatherman doesn't want it?

Looks like I missed out. Too many problems during checkout.

I hope ARC turns out to be a great tool.

yeah...the process is ridiculous. Plus you have a login, but the system does not let you log in. And putting in all the information took forever - it is no wonder they sold out. I give up on the Garage stuff. It is a waste of money in my opinion anyway since I do not want to use something that will go up in value or that has no real or guaranteed warranty - so it is probably the right thing for me that I could not get one. It is what it is - more frustrated that I wasted 20 minutes messing around with the site for nothing...time is someting I cannot get back!

Was a battle getting in. Safari could not load the page, but eventually got through on Fitefox while at work. Went to training and took a rather long time. Approximately $291 with standard shipping.

Right at 9:59 the site was wonky slow. When I did reach a page it said, Oops… something went wrong.

Persistent, used time, but eventually got through at 10:20 or so. There is a limit of 1 per address/login.

Don’t give up!

I seriously hate limited runs that sell out in 5 - 10 minutes.  Personally, they generate more ill will toward a company than excitement over their products.  I am very happy I scored the latest Garage, but the anxiety over getting it and the annoyance with the process had a huge negative effect.

By the way, if you didn't get one, they are very likely to release a few more at several different times throughout the day... at least that's what happened the last 4 Garage releases.

I will keep trying some more, but honestly I am so tempted to start a group therapy thread just to celebrate this occasion.

This is how I felt exactly half an hour ago.

I made it all the way through entering payment and confirming and the place order just spun and would go from grey to yellow. Their site could just not handle the traffic. And when I tried calling, just busy signal.

At this point landing a Garage tool has basically become a lottery.  Luckily, this time there is an equivalent on the horizon.

I didn't try.  I really hope all who wanted one got one or will get one.  There will be some who tried to buy multiples that go back for sale like last time.

Give it one more go, who knows what'll happen.

Same  here. Kept pressing, hoping I wasn’t going to end up with more. Finally got confirmation, and an email. Took screen shots off the sales page too.

The only way to stop those that immediately sell in eBay for a profit is not to buy. It really grinds my gears those trying to make a quick buck like that.

I do agree with what Rich said here, and I think the only way to stop this madness is by LM cease to create this tension amongst the users.

I don't know if we could still remember how crazy was the Victorinox colored Alox at one point--but I thought Vic did the right thing by supplying more regular colors and restricting interesting colors to annual limited.  The supply was just right, so anyone who cared would still be able to get a dip, meanwhile Vic was rolling in all the dough with the last laugh.

Personally, I actually don't mind too much what LM do at Garage, but making the 40th anniversary a Garage exclusive with such low quantity?  That just turn my angry panda loose!

Agree. Also, the fact that we already knew about the Arc makes it a lot less exciting. Garage 5: Slight variant of a tool you've all been waiting for for 6 months!

I wonder if this is just them trying to do too much. Maybe 40th Anniversary tool, Garage 5, and Arc all coming within a month or two just overwhelmed them?

Thanks for the video. It’s the first time that I have been able to see the deployment mechanism of the bit drivers.  They seem to have fixed the issue of poor implements on the Free series, and the slightly longer bit drivers has me really excited for the ARC.

Yeah it looks the Garage 5 is more or less an Arc with white cerakote, 3 holes and the lettering.  I am way more looking forward to the Arc since it is something I would actually carry.

I really wanted one but the site held me up while trying to pay. Oh well. Maybe the Arc will be out shortly, that’s seems to be the only valid reason to send a limited edition like this to influencers since this one was bound to sell out anyway.

Thank you for that video PN; has made me be interested in the upcoming Arc tool. if the ARC will be close in form and function to this, it will be a real winner: all outside-accessible tools (I now know that the OE Free series is also like that; the OE is not my cup of tea), an improved blade alloy, bit drivers, full size diamond file/sharpener, saw, awl (albeit a squared end one), larger than the Charge but not so much as a Surge, not as floppy, and the pommel pliers head. If only you could select between sprung and unsprung pliers head, that would make it perfect and, dare to say it, a Swisstool Spirit contender.

I’m actually looking more forward to the ARC. After using a LM for years, the spring loaded scissors drive me insane. Plus, the 25 year warranty. I mean, someone would need a lot more guts than me to beat on a tool with a 2 year warranty. When you think about it, the warranties on the Mr Crunch and DarkSide are about up already.

I thought the warranty was there just not the replacemebt part of it due to  the item being a limited run and so they would not have more to replace yours with… however it does say they will then refund the full price if they cannot repair it so you could then I presume buy an Arc and have change to spare… or did I miss interpret?

Dang! That's smurfin' nuts! For the price I probably should of backed out. Kept telling Leatherman to put the Swiss-like can opener on a tool with a decent awl and I would buy one. Only weak point I see is the small bit driver. Would rather have a Spirit Chisel in there personally or a lanyard attachment. Is there a lanyard attachment on this Pre-Arc?

I bought to use. Is the most expensive Leatherman I have ever bought. :ahhh Hope it was worth it, and USPS better not lose it!!!!  :viking:

The Garage tools have a 25-year warranty as well.  The only difference is that they can't replace it - they can only offer store credit for the purchase price.

Fortunately I could check how LM's site was working (it wasn't), but I didn't really have time to play around with it anyway.  I agree with Comis that a wifer release of a 40th anniversary model would be preferable to me.  Then there is the cost.  For Garage money, I want a blade exchanger instead of the saw.  If the Garage was a true LM custom shop, I could easily be persuaded to part with the cash to get the tool I really want.

I agree with Comis that a wider release of a 40th anniversary model would be preferable to me.

Creating an artificial shortage is a time-tested means of driving up the cost (and therefore margins), and creating a feeding frenzy for future products (like the very similar Leatherman Arc which I expect soonish.).  Leatherman cranked about $545,000 in revenue in 5 minutes - and that's the real reason that Leatherman exists though we like to think it is to give us fun toys.

When people are yelling "take my money" at their computers, Leatherman is doing something right.
