Day 4

It was a pretty boring day here. Washed the motorcycle, picked a few more blackberries for the freezer, went to the creek and caught a few bullheads and creek chubs, took a nap. Dull day I tell ya,,

Wonderful trads, beautiful scenery, and delicious-looking chicken! :tu:

Day 4

This is the first little traditional "rabbit" I met: the Case Peanut in "Pocket Worn" harvest orange bone. One look, and I fell into the proverbial rabbit hole! This is a pattern I'll awlways have a soft spot for. No use yet aside from some sharpness tests (it's doing quite well).

Chicken Dinner

Inspired by GA1dad's smoked chicken, I decided to modify my technique for grilling chicken.

Typically, I grill the chicken over low, direct heat, basting with butter during the last ½ to ⅓ of the grilling time. My wife prefers it done this way because the skin is crispy. This time, I doubled the grilling time to 4 hours and used direct and indirect techniques (including the use of apple wood pellets).

Halfway through:

After 4 hours:

On my plate with my green sauce and my wife's sides:

My wife has now ordered me always grill the chicken in this manner, so I must have pleased her. I know I was happy with it.

The green sauce is inspired by two different sauces for chicken: the sauce served at Scotchies (a jerk chicken and pork restaurant in Jamica that I would love to visit one day) and Peruvian green sauce. I used to use habaneros in the sauce, but my body started telling me to stop that nonsense, so I just use jalapenos these days  :D

I did use the Craftsman to open the charcoal bag, but a small spearpoint really isn't the right tool to cut up chicken.

DLT has one less in inventory than they did.......
Then, actually 2 less, I been considering for a week after David hinted he was waiting for it be available to order.  Finally set up account and order as well despite the green. Yet, I am fond of Micarta and warncliff blades😘
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

A Case Navy Sowbelly, hanging out enjoying the day.  Every time I handle and use this knife, I am reminded of how sweet it feels in my hand.

Day 05

RR Barlow with blue micarta scales.  A relatively recent one for me and lots to like about it too.  Great F&F and nice pull on both blades (with half stops to boot).  However it's let down a bit by having both nail nicks on the same side and the pen blade pretty much covers the nick of the main blade.  Not necessarily a problem for all, but this is also a chunky monkey.  I think I'd love this a lot more without the pen blade layer.

Excitement on the beach this morning, a turtle ventured up to lay eggs, picture of its tracks.

Day 5

Today I'm showing off my coolest pocket knife.  This Boker belonged to my grandfather, and according to the tang stamp it was made sometime from 1920 to 1930.  My grandfather was in the Navy for 20 years and the Merchant Marines for another 20, and by the looks of the knife, it was heavily used during that time.  I have considered some light restoration work, but I am afraid of damaging it.

Below it is the Cadet I will actually carry today  :tu:
