I’ve been eyeing a White River Always There Knife (ATK) for some time and decided that this challenge and DLT bonus points provided the perfect excuse.  It probably won’t be here in time for day 1, but I do have a couple others to get me by.

Nice!

I looked up White River Knives years ago their fillet knives were featured on How It's Made. I liked the blade shape of the Knucklehead, but then it was chisel ground; which save for the Vic Garden knives, I'm not a fan of. Apparently, recently they updated the design to have a standard grind, so looks like I may be picking one up.

Still time for anyone else to join us.  There's also a Leatherman Wave challenge that will run in October which should be very interesting.  I certainly wouldn't hold it against anyone for wanting to do that one instead, especially, if they live where carrying fixed blade knives could be a problem.

I've also decided to sit this out.  A few challenges in a row, the new pup, and a storm have left me tired.  I'll check in to see how it's going.  Good luck to all!

Thanks.  I am really looking forward to trying it.  I like that the handle should give a full grip and that you are suppose to be able to insert in the sheath from either direction.

Day 01

Well I'm starting the challenge with a Myerchin 1st generation rigging knife instead of the new Bradford, because I had it out on my desk already and I like it.  It is a really slick blade to use even if it is a little bigger than my EDC sweet spot by a full inch of blade length.  It comes with a nylon sheath that can be worn vertical or horizontal and I also get to play with the marlin spike.   No question that these rigging knives are capable for EDC. They are made to be pounded with a mallet through rope as thick as the blade is long, so they should stand up to my mundane tasks fairly easily. Just a couple of things to be aware about Myerchin,  1) this is a first gen knife which you're not likely to find new in the box anymore and  2) If you buy a used one Myerchin only covers the warranty on these knives to the original owner. :td:  Still, they're great knives and I like them a lot.

Day 1 - the game commences
Big Norwegian got hanged on my belt for walking the dog:

A business gift from ’90’s. This big knife has seen some camping duty and has mostly lived in the cabin of Land/Range Rover for the past 25+  years.

It is made by Stromeng and I think it is still in production and called Samiknife

Day 1: additional entry:
After returning from my walk I was asked to open a new bag of tea. Granted, not the most convinient kitchen knife but it did get the job done.

On 2nd one it poses with the big Opinel.
Since we are carrying fixed blades this month I thought it proper to also switch to big blade training for a few weeks (usually I train with big blades only once a month or so).

As you can see the blade has quite some patina on it. This one has lived a relatively tough life. A cabin of a Series Land Rover is not a very civilised place after all ;)

Day 1

I remembered talking about fixed blades with Nix a long while ago, and he recommended me Fiddleback forge as a maker.  Fast forward a year or two, I finally got my hand on one last month.  It really does have great fit and finish.

Day 1: doing exactly nothing today so far.

Typically, around the house, my choice is usually a Classic SD and/or a small lightweight lockback or traditional folder measuring 3" closed or so.

I would call the Tekna Xtra Edge as the fixed blade version of a small lockback--it's just over 3" OAL with a 1.5" 420HC blade. It barely weighs a half-ounce and is super-thin.  It is designed as a keyring knife, but I bought it for pocket use.

I love the form factor of this one, but not too sure about the quality. I have both this one and a blunt/screwdriver tip version. This one was dull when I got it, the screwdriver tip version's blade falls out of the handle--I think Tekna just glues them on at best--they are not molded/permanently affixed to the blade tangs. They are US-made, however.   I will admit that it is basically the only pocket-size fixed blade that I bought that I ever used as intended, and it's cheap enough to lose at $15-20 each. I'll try to find the orange handle/blunt tip version and email the company to see if Tekna covers it in the warranty.

Day 1

New territory for me, a fix blade at my home front and suburban world.  My Buck Ranger has been my EDC this past 5 years.

When working, yes a fix blade was carried and used where permitted, and usually a Mora 511?did the deed.

Today, I will venture out into the world and utilize my Hunter Gather instincts with this fix blade in my pocket.

This Izula was fitted with new G10 handle grips and bright red lanyard cord. The grips also extend the handle length to match my Izula II.  As my fingers no longer could get a working grip on the Izzie with cord wrap and short length. A definite improvement.  It was attached to float vest for canoe trips.

The first step😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Cutting up some dog treats. Wanted tasty treats because we were going out in a pretty rain storm, and I want going out in the rain to be fun! The knife worked exceptionally well for this simple task (and dug into the cutting board with shocking ease!)

The Bow-legged Joe (BLJ in future) is being carried in a pocket sheath. I have it clipped to my belt in a way that allows my to stick it in either my front or back pocket.

This shot highlights a lovely scratch in the blade. I find this happens with kydex sheaths more than leather. I suspect a bit of grit became impregnated into the sheath and resulted in the scratching.     Ah, well, we'll call it "character".

Hi, y'all.  I'm sorry to say I wont be able to participate in this challenge.  I've had some unexpected family things come up that need me attention.  All is good just won't always have time to take and post pictures.  I'll be along this challenge with you all and I'll most certainly check in to see the gorgeous blades.

So far so good

Day 1 (Part 2). I had added the Mora Basic 511 125th Anniversary Edition from 2016 to have a more capable knife to do some chores.

Opened some mail with it.
