Have to agree that the red scales on the M61 are magnificent! Here my ‘63 Elsener is doing awlsome duty opening yet another sack of peanuts for the wildlife visiting my garden.

However, I have found that the notch created in the jaws of my side cutters when I cut a live wire

I wouldn't do it that way, but if it works for you.  :tu:

Vintage SAK 30 Day Challenge
Day 24 of 30
1970-ish Pioneer

Another package today. Been wanting to experiment with a smoke infuser in an effort to improve my BBQ scores.

The main blade on the Standard opened a package when the provided pull strip failed.

Day 24

Can test, round 3. Went with the "side" technique again. I've learned that it helps to rip the label before you start so it doesn't get jammed/gummed in the rest. I also dumped most of the syrup after the first cut.

I stopped slicing when the can started to get "shakey" and was able to bend the lid without too much trouble.

Surprise! Found a pit in once I got them open. Guess there's no question that these are legit apricots.

Side note, be very careful about cleaning the knife after using the can opener (especially since it's messier than the modern one). There was some residue/rust on several of the implements that I missed last night. Nothing a damp cloth and rust eraser couldn't fix, but it makes me appreciate the newer very Stainless steel Vic uses now.

DAY 24

Carried the 70s Director again today.  Use the large blade to cut open an ice cream bar. I’m really liking carrying this slim 74 mm. It really is the perfect size.

Looking great yawl!  :salute:

Model Wenger soldier's knife 1957

Used the awl to do some maintenance in the printer.

It worked very well. The awl is very stable and solidly built, which makes it possible to work safely. Modern SAK have no such tool. Therefore point for the vintage SAK.

Intermediate score: 16:10

Great uses, y’awl!

Day 25

Back with the 234k in my pocket, and time to free some new garden bags from their packaging before heading out to get some pruning done - putting the cuttings into these bags means I can keep the cuttings in the sun to help them dry out (or indeed get them out of the rain as necessary!) ready for burning to add potash to the soil. Once again the little blade surprised with its efficiency at this task!

I would probably switch from Team Spartan/Huntsman to Team Tinker if they did.
