I think I’m going to bow out of this challenge.  Between being busier than I thought and my internet going out yesterday, I’ve gotten behind on posting and haven’t really been able to read the post of others.
Sorry to hear that, but still see if you can continue

DAY 14

So have been busy with my own classic carving challenge, my observations are as follows:

Lateral stress when doing push or chest lever cuts is hard and not practical

Obviously the handle is not long enough, even with the scissors out to do material removal

The cuts need to be small and really chip carving

Blade edge stability is poor for this task (I have sharpened the classic 30 odd times since the start of the challenge)

Blade needs to ground to a chisel edge to make wood carving possible (I'll look to reprofile soon)

Wood choice for carving is important (I moved to willow wood)

Overall this have been a humbling experience, but it is possible as can be seen with the version 2 carving request...my 5 year old is over the moon

Day 14

It’s Sunday again so it’s time for another fancy knife - the Broker.

The stainless steel scales look great, very classy and they are practical and durable at the same time - what else to ask for?

It is super thin - comparison photo with regular classic and the Swiss lite.

DAY 14  Green SD with emergency blade.  I don't care for the pharma company ad, but it's the only one I have with that too set.

A nice Hey Duggee, Gra.  I had to look up the cartoon character.  I'm not sure they have Hey Duggee over here.
I needed a big funnel and a catch basin, so an empty water jug did both at one time.  I started to PM Sherry yesterday, but figured she would cope with whatever was happening without my interference.  I'm glad she isn't sick.  Best wishes.  G

Yesterday was even colder. Spent the day tending to the fire, checking in on the elderly neighbors, and entertaining the kids.

Day 14:
We are doing some heavy equipment repair already this morning. Used the Mint SD to install some fresh batteries in my little boy's RC bulldozer so he could clean up the Cheerios his 9 month old sister dropped out of her walker in the living room.

Are the mini dice something you leave lying around for the kids like the ducks?  Looks like you have the proper equipment for Cheerio removal.  Around some houses the dog does that duty.
Enjoying the posts and pix.  As usual I am contributing the worst photos.  Somebody has to do it.  Best wishes.  G

The dice are regular size. We use them to play games in my math class. We used to have a yellow lab that lived his job as cheerio cleaner-uper. He hasn't been with us for a few years now. Maybe someday we will get another.

Day 14:

No use.

I let my facial hair grow a little too much, and when it does, it tends to cause my Fusion blades to clog, thus I brought out the Speed Shaver--made in 1955, it was my great-granddad's go-to razor for over 30 years before getting retired for an electric model the past ten years of his life.

I found it randomly in a box of junk organizing the outbuilding this summer, and while originally, I planned not to use it, I lost my Merkur 23C around that same time, so I used this one instead. It gets the hair off in a hurry, but if you're not careful, it WILL make your face look like Swiss Cheese--especially with Feather blades. I like the Wilkinson Sword blades I get from the local pharmacy, but I'm running low.

I bought one of those D7Es back when they first came out--previously, most RC dozers were either junk or priced ridiculously high. A little underpowered, but it's pretty decent. They make a version that has a little more "oomph" and uses standard rechargeable batteries, but it's more than double.

Mine has a bad habit of losing the tracks when making tight turns, and I accidentally slightly tore one when putting it back on the drive wheel. I need to check if Diecast Masters sells replacements.

I've been using a safety razor for over 10yrs now.  Your post reminded me that I have my grand pa's old razor.  I need to see if I can restore it and put it to use.

Day 14

The Classic SD took the day off today.  I was trying to be lazy as well but... I made a fire in the fireplace, made french toast and apple wood bacon for the family breakfast, drank copious amounts of coffee, and sat down to watch movies with the family.  It was a good day.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I have been incredibly impressed with this one. My brother bought it for him and I think it was only $15 from a farm and ranch store. I cannot believe how long it ran on 4 standard AAA batteries. It has been on the same set since Christmas day and it has been played with a lot. This one will lose a track occasionally when turning sharp on the carpet. Otherwise it is awesome.

DAY 15

Bought the wife this keyring for her car keys, it has a lovely inscription on the back, but she hates the 'mum' wording on the front....in steps the classic to help out...

....now what to put there in its place?

Hang tough, Graham.  If you feel like talking we will listen.  However, you don't owe us any explanation.  We have all been in tight squeezes.  Of all sorts.   :)
Wasn't that a lame photo that I posted this morning?  Might have been better if I took a photo of where I dropped my hard-boiled egg for breakfast on the floor.  I rinsed it off and ate it anyway.  The egg, not the floor.
Were you ever in a little convenience store/gas station that had a gallon jar of boiled eggs floating around in some murky reddish fluid?  Up by the cash register.  Buy an egg, and the cash register girl would fish it out with a little gizmo?  Pickled egg, right?  They don't look bad when the jar is full, but when there are only a few left floating in the mix with some unidentifiable floaties....  It takes a strong stomach to ask for one.  I really like the pickled sausages.  Yum.
People throw trash out of their cars along the road running by my mailbox.  I have picked up truck loads of stuff through the years.  I was carrying my 5 gallon bucket and picking up trash when I found it.  A half gallon of homemade pickled eggs in the usual pinkish fluid.  Tossed out of a car.  (Some gift, right?)  Still sealed.  I had to pick it up.  Took it home.  Poured the contents on the ground.  The fur-bearers cleaned them up that night.  I bet they would like the pickled sausages too.  Best wishes.  G

I've always thought the same of those pickled eggs...they turned my stomach even before my recent development of an egg allergy. And then you go and one up it with roadside pickled eggs? Trash Pandas'll eat anything 🤮
