Day 7

Like a trembling, rotting hand pushing its way out of the mounded earth of a grave.... it's back.  That unseen something that goes by the name of Ms. Phoenix.
Some of you might remember the setting from a month or two ago.  There is a falling-down cottage that I must drive by on my way to Werecoyote Road where I live.  This brown moldering thing sits on a little bank by the paved road right where it makes a blind 90 degree turn.  Any boo boo driving through that turn will put you over a hundred foot drop.  If you are lucky you would be able to die in the river instead of tumbling down the steep drop off.
Does anyone live in that place?  I don't know.  Sometimes there is a car there.  Sometimes there isn't.  I never see anyone outside, and there is no upkeep around the tiny plot that is only big enough for the house and short, steep driveway.  Just last week, I drove around the curve and something rose up in front of my vehicle.  A black vulture narrowly missed my ride and flopped off toward the river at windshield level.  I saw a clear plastic bag in the cottage driveway where the bird had been feeding.  Some carrion of course.  The bag was about dead cat sized.
Then yesterday it happened.  I got more mail for this cottage in my mailbox.  One was addressed to the alias, "Ms. Phoenix."  The other looked like a legal notice and gave an actual name of a female.  How does the mail wind up in my box?  Simple.  My mailbox is a long way from my house, but only a couple of hundred feet from, I assume, Ms. Phoenix.  Ms. Phoenix, whoever or whatever she or it is doesn't have a mailbox.
Gal, or ghoul.  Big wolfy dog, or dogs, that would tear limb from limb someone holding a misplaced letter in front of them with an unsteady step and shaky smile?  Wild eyed crazy person who would shoot poor friendly old IMR on sight?  Starting out with a song in my heart and winding up chained in the root cellar with a lump on my head?  With some other skeletons likewise attired in iron links?  No thanks.
It is back to the post office with the misplaced mail.  Again.  Try to explain to a bored clerk who is only thinking about her next cigarette break.  Again.  I'm not about to go deliver mail for the letter carrier.  Nope.
Ah well.  It is time to show a Wenger photo.  Taken outside Walmart.  Fall flowers for sale.  Best wishes.  G

On a cheerier note, I was looking at the pocky knives at Walmart.  I heard a voice say, "Whatcha need, homes?" behind me.  I decided that maybe someone was speaking to me, so I turned and said I was just looking.  Then I took a photo.  Only two Victorinox models.  Seems like the price of Classics is lower than before?  Maybe not.
You can see a few other knives.  The empty $9.97 slot in front must be for the orange flipper clipper that everyone on the net is going wacko over.  Looks like a Benchmark or Benchmade or something.  I think friend Aztec ordered one?  Maybe I will see if they have one hidden behind the counter next time I go in.  Ten bucks isn't much.  Might just buy one for chuckles.  Best wishes.  G

Day 7

The S105 (locking main blade) selected for carry today!

The realized the tool set is almost identical as my Swiss Buck Odyssey 🤪.  Main blade biggest difference besides the scales.

I prefer the nail file option over the pen blade too!😉

And, I knew I had one more Wenger!

A classic style, that lost its shield long ago. This part of my travel kit for checked luggage.

Enlarge the picture and notice the etching on the blade!  It is my only pure Wenger and had not noticed it before as my Traveler is still packaged.

Do you mean the Wenger trademark tang stamp?  By the way, it is an Esquire.  I am carrying one just like it for this month.  Only mine isn't as nice.  Same reverse tang W.  Cross on the scales is still there on mine.  Faintly.  Best wishes.  G

Thank you Gary!

I carried this for maybe five years, enough to wear off or loose the cross emblem.

IIRC it was set aside when I acquired a Vic Manager (aka Vagabond)  about mid 1990s from a knife store across the Carmel Korn shop my kids worked at in mall. 😉

Feel better, Humayd!

Day 7

No carry pic today, since I was disarmed for work. As it turned out, the security onsite was much less strict than we were told, and I probably would've been fine.

Either way, good day for a cameo pic. Here's a thickness comparison between the PTC that I've been carrying, and the Evolution 88. Of all the weird Wenger things, the Evo scales are the strangest to me. They're thicker/heavier than regular scales, and aren't actually any more comfortable to hold in most positions.

I much prefer the Vic scale tools, more accessible.
Much more readily available, too!

Mowed the lawn with the RangerWood along for the ride.

120mm or not, it is a great, good looking knife!
:iagree:

I'm not about to go deliver mail for the letter carrier.  Nope.
I've recently taken deliveries that FedEx botched to the correct address. The lady who answered the door seemed surprised that I did so.

I'm dealing with a shoulder injury from a few weeks back (tears in my right supraspinatus),and slowed down a bit.
Best wishes for a full and fast recovery!

A classic style, that lost its shield long ago.
But fortunately retained its scale tools! :tu:

Happy birthday! :drink: Mine is coming up very soon, too.

Another great day, y'awl!

Day 7

I took advantage ofsome unseasonably cool weather and trimmed the obnoxious little smurfbird of a tree that likes to encroach onto my property.

That awlso served as an opportunity to test out the saw on the Gerber Armbar Scout. The Victorinox saw was the better performer, but the Armbar Scout held its own. Maybe tomorrow I'll test them on dry wood. Note that the photo shows them after their saws were washed and they got fresh oil.

@IMR4191 - I'd  steer clear of Ms. Phoenix's house.  You don't want to find out that you are truly welcome for the wrong reasons.   :o  I did pick up one of those orange flippers.  They're not bad for $10 but I wouldn't by them for the scalping prices I've seen them offered on fleaBay for.  I saw one for $50!  They're out of their minds.

@Humayd - Swift recovery!

@Echotech - Beautiful looking knife!

Day 8

Took the Apprentice out today.  I can definitely appreciate not having any back tools but I do miss having tweezers though they were not needed today.  I was trying to sew up our couch (thanks to the kids and the dog) and I didn't have scissors handy (and I wasn't about to go hunting for them) so out came the Apprentice to assist.

Day 8

My last large Delemont - Vic RangerGrip 68.

I think the Vic additions improved the original design - more versatile can opener, sharpened awl, T&T.

Day 8

Old IMR419-something here.  I need to do some corrections this morning.  I noticed that I exaggerated a little in my last post about my situation.  Yes, the Ms. Phoenix part is real.  So is the house in the curve.  The only part where the truth kicked down the stall and ran away is the part about going over the hundred foot drop.  I thought it over and decided that 40 feet is probably closer to right.  Almost hitting the vulture was true.
Back to the Wengers.  I pulled the shrink wrap from a new bottle of black pepper corns.  It is one of those deals that has a grinder built into the cap.  You've seen those.  The grinder had a sharp burr that poked my hand the first time I needed pepper.  The wee fingernail file was a fail on the protuberance.  I filed and felt several times.  Nope.  The sharp blade from the 65mm did the trick in a jiffy.  Non-hazardous grinding is back on Werecoyote Trail.  I have decided to say trail instead of road.  At least for now.  Best wishes.  G
 ;)

Thanks guys.
Day 4
The awl on the Wenger SAKs (at least, what I have) is intriguing in it's differences to the Vic awls.
I wish I bought more Wenger SAKs when  they were still being made.

This Standard Issue/Soldat is my favorite "Pioneer" to carry. I like the bail, but unfortunately this does happen sometimes:

In an alternate universe where Wenger bought Vic instead of the other way around this might've been the first model of the "Ibach" line.

@AzteCypher: I'm glad my cats didn't see that post. They might have gotten what I call "cute little ideas!

@z1913: Are the T and T in the same scale?

@IMR4198: Still not a plunge I'd want to take!

@ReamerPunch: The contents seem to have spent some time in a facility that processes pecans. Are those pecan pies?

@Humayd A R Mahomedy: You and me both!

@Antti Lammi: Looks like that one has seen a lot of pocket time!

@BPRoberts: I've never had that happen, but I've had back layer awls close on key rings more than I'd like to admit.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

It was a quiet Delémont day, with just a quick grooming task for the scissors.

I must admit the EVO 14, a purchase during the ‘tween Challenge  is proving itself to be useful.

So far I have carried it more than expected. Today the file was used along with the scissors for some grooming tasks.

Day 8

Used the Wenger Premier to cut some more serranos off the plant.  I need to make some salsa this week as I have too many serranos sitting in a bowl.

I find the Premier interesting with the Vic tools on it.  I wonder how difficult it would be to convert Wenger scales to use Vic scale tools seeing as how those are still readily available.  Maybe I'll explore that down the road some time.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.
