@z1913 - That's a nice Wenger Professional 1.72.21.

Day 4

It was too nice of an evening to not take advantage of it. So, I used my Pocket Tool Chest to pick some serranos, check the bbq chicken on the grill, then finally to open some dessert for the kids.  (Ok, I'll admit it was for me but the kids did have some.)

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Broke out he Plum Ice Purple Esquire to help with mail call.
Now that I think about it, that color does look a fair bit like Plum Crazy.

Professionally cut gingerbread.
:like:

Another orange.
I should get me some oranges!

Holy smurf is this a great can opener!
:iagree:

Swiss Buck in the pocket.
:like: Which model is that?

Today with Fly Fisherman...
I like the Wengers with scale art! :tu:

Another great day, y'awl!

Day 4

Ultimately, I'm sure they were grateful that I used the Evolution 23 for "meal prep." :)

Day 5

Classic 62 - same toolset as Picnic, but with scale tools. My favourite SAK style - single layer with combo tool - super practical, super pocketable. When combined with an Esquire or Pocket tool chest for scissors I have all I need in a normal day.
And with Wenger you get the crazy, quirky combo tool - I believe the Vic version of combo tool is better but here you can feel like a Batman!

My only gripe with this specific knife is the keyring nub. In general I prefer SAKs with keyrings, but in this case the construction is suboptimal. Not only the aluminium insert looks and feel cheap, with somewhat sharp edges, but it as well obstructs the access to the T&T - really not easy to retrieve. Suprisingly they had much, much better design of the keyring nub on Classic 63 - Entree - extension of the spring - looks better, feel better, no issue with the T&T.

Day 5 - Evo 14

Snagged myself a copy of The Knife and its History printed in 1984. It’s in incredibly good condition and even has the original letter from the Elseners :woohoo:

Had to be a Delemont to go with it then

Day 5

Since it rained a little, I decided to cut a few of the straggly weeds that were growing in my lawn.  I set the mowing deck high (since the grass really isn't growing just some uneven spots) and wacked some in the hard to get to spots with my aged Echo.   I didn't see any yellow jacket nests in my yard this year.   Evidently the skunks found a big one.  I took a photo of a skunk excavation with my Esquire for scale.  The grass inside the hole came from my weedwacker.  The skunks had cleaned it out quite well.  They eat the grubs for the main course, and the paper nest while they are at it.  Along with what little yellow and black stinging ground wasps they find.  There are generally about a gazillion.
Lawn looks nice anyway.  Temps are down, so maybe the grass won't turn brown.  There were already spots with not much growing on them now.   I found some places down my driveway where something had been clawing apart some rotting wood looking for a meal.  Might have been skunks there too.  Or a bear maybe.  Best wishes.  G

Per SAKWIKI, it is the GLOBETROTTER, as it is fitted with scale tools, tweezer and toothpick.  If it did not have those it is called the Highlander.

Burrito? (Obviously I haven't searched for Oporto yet.)

Classic 62...
Absolutely fantastic. I like the blue scales in combination with the red background on the cross! :like:

Snagged myself a copy of The Knife and its History printed in 1984.
Congratulations!

I took a photo of a skunk excavation with my Esquire for scale.
Hope the "homeowners" were away at the time!

:hatsoff:

Wenger Champ (1.21.03)...
:tu:

Helped my buddy install a TV mount.
My bedroom TV is mounted to the wall. The stud finder apparently didn't work too well when it was up against plaster and lath. Hope you had no such difficulties.

Another great day, y'awl!

I used to mow my second-grade teacher's lawn when I was a kid.  Sometimes I went fishing with her husband Fred.  When he would see me, he would ask if I wanted a cigarette.  Then he would pull out a roll of mints.  He said that was the only thing that helped him quit smoking.  Gave him something to fidget around with and something to put in his mouth.  I think a lot of stopping smoking is finding something to take place of the cigarette ritual.  You know it.  Take out a pack.  Tap it and get out a ciggie.  Go through the routine of lighting.  Take a hit.  Take out the tube.  Put it back in, etc.  That learned hand and mouth coordinated routine has to be broken along with the actual smoking.  That routine will keep you reaching for a cigarette, even after you quit carrying them.  The mints or candies don't actually change the learned smoker's routine completely.  It just leaves out the cigarette part.  Works for some people, anyway.  Best wishes.  G

This was my uncle Larry.  He used peppermints to quit smoking.  Always saw him in a suit and he always had peppermints in this coat pockets.   He would give us kids 2 each every time we saw him out and about.  The mints helped keep the urge at bay and his breath always smelled good.

Day 5
Carried my Microlight Esquire today.  I've read that these are actually translucent Onyx scales that have faded into brown but I've also read that they're Chocolate Brown scales.  We may never know.  Regardless, both the knife and the light came in handy this evening when it came time to change out the registration sticker on our SUV.

One you don’t see too often, from 1972. Only Wenger released a mod 61 in 1972 so if it’s your BYSAK you’re getting a Wenger :like: :climber:

Day 6

Sliced open a box of flapjack mix.  Exciting stuff, right?  Probably better than piddling around with my fingernails.  That's an everyday thing.  I always liked the nail file more than the small blade on the bigger SAKs.  It got more use.
Still carrying the same Wenger Esquire.  Every day.  Best wishes.  G

That one looks pretty dark. So if translucent brown is actually faded black, yours must have faded gradually. How even is the color?

My pants button broke off at work...
I nearly popped a button off my pants earlier in the week. Luckily I hadn't left the house, so I just changed them. Outgrown after four months, but that's a good thing.

Only Wenger released a mod 61 in 1972 so if it’s your BYSAK you’re getting a Wenger...
:like: I think both Victorinox and Wenger produced Model 61s in my birth year.

PTC again in my pocket for today.
I don't have a 65mm Wenger. Worse, I stupidly passed on the chance to buy an unused one for $5 last year.

Sliced open a box of flapjack mix.  Exciting stuff, right?
I like flapjacks that are drenched with syrup!

Today again with Ranger 179.
Those olive green scales are too cool! :tu:

Another great day, y'awl!

Day 6

A package that originated in the UK and was mailed from Italy made it home (in the Detroit area) today. I used the Evolution 23 to open it and free the customs form from its holder.

One thing still needs to be done: removing the tape residue from the blade.

Picture looks good to me, Gordon.  I have been sending in some zingers myself.  Trying to get some 'use' photos.  Not always artistic.  I wish more of the SAKs had a big clip point blade.  To tell the truth, I had just as soon have the nail file arrangement as a small blade while I am wishing.  Best wishes.  G

Day 6

This Pocket Tool Chest is my keychain ride this month, and I used the toothpick today. I much prefer the Vic scale tools, more accessible. I do think the PTC has a great toolset though. Wish Vic would put the awl and/or eyeglass driver on some models.

Mowed the lawn with the RangerWood along for the ride. The saw on the 130mm really cuts well, the extra size over say a 91mm is really noticeable

The color is real even all the way through.  I have a hard time believing that it's actually Onyx black that has faded into this.  It looks too uniform.

Swiss Buck - Odyssey

No scale tools, no file. Both blades are Clip point styles.  2 layer build, with cork screw and awl.

I really like the Swiss Bucks but mine are in such good shape that I don't want to carry them and mar the scales.  Guess I need to find me one in not so good a shape so I can carry it.

Day 6

Pocket Tool Chest - 16658, with the stainless steel scales was the carry of the day.  I really like the heft that the scales add.  Makes the little Wenger feel tougher to me.  Had to call on it during mail call and to help pull a staple out of a frame so I could repair it.

Day 7

It is weekend so time for something bigger. Wenger Ranger 06. 120mm.

Well, 120mm... - not really per my measurement. Including keyring nub (so the same method which gives 130mm to the new ranger line) I am getting 129mm, excluding it 125mm.
Even visually compared to the 130mm Ranger  it is very simillar.

So I am puzzled - why is this line classified as 120mm? Are there different versions?  Anyone has any insights?

But 120mm or not, it is a great, good looking knife!
