Opinel No.08 Mod - resize and mirror polish

This is my attempt at modifying an Opinel No. 8 to a smaller size that fits my Altoids kit, and polish it to a mirror finish.

I could get a smaller opinel, but where's the fun in that!

I performed the below steps for the mod:
1. Took an Opinel No.08
2. Took to a table grinder to grind the blade to a smaller size. You could cut the blade to size if you have the tools, but I only had the table grinder.
3. Applied some finishing compound to the buffing wheel on the grinder and buffed the blade till desired finish was achieved.
4. Cut the handle to size, such that it matched the reduced blade size.
5. Applied some oil and done.

Tested the modified Opinel on pencil sharpening duty..
Works smoothly.. Happy with the mod..

Opinel materials are fairly easy to work with and not too expensive to replace if you get it wrong.

Thank you, and agreed that the simple design is easy to work with..
One thing I realized during this mod is, the wooded handle is pretty robust.. I had to pun in an effort into sawing it..

I added the modified opinel to this Altoids kit, it does fit in nicely but takes a lot more space than the Classic SD. But this feels more like a knife.

Let's see, I'll try this set-up for a while.

If you're looking to request another badge, for another activity, you'll have to start another thread with that subject matter.  Say you want to request the Flashlight badge.  You'll have to start another thread indicating that you're going for your Flashlight badge with the necessary requirements.

Start a new thread and post a photo daily of any SAK 74mm or smaller ( you can switch it up daily ) for thirty (30) consecutive days.  Post a pic for Halloween of your pumpkin (or turnip or gourd or whatever you traditionally carve for Halloween!) being carved by any SAK, multitool, pocket or woods knife you may own!  Only available once a year Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Delemont SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Complete a 30 day challenge for carrying a different Multi tool each day of the week based on one of the daily carry threads Participate in a Challenge and post a photo of a Traditional Scout Knife (No SAK's Allowed) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of any gear for thirty (30) consecutive days during the MTo anniversary month. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Alox SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a Challenge, carry a fire-starting item and post a picture daily  (in use if possible) for 30 days.
