I was debating about joining this as I'll be off camping for a week or so with no service this month. I'll throw my hat in worst case I'll come back from my trip with some nice pictures for moral support.  :salute:

Day 1

I have these three hanging out with me trying to decide if I want to go for one of the sub challenges. I probably won't. I'll only bring one or two knives with me camping so that's what will really dictate it.

Day 1

This Camillus 99 will probably see the bulk of the action throughout this challenge. However, it's limited to at-home use.

No separate Dean Badge.

There is the Traditional Badge, many seek on 1st time.
Then there is a GEC badge. Also a CASE badge. An Opinel badge could be another option.   And I just saw a EDC badge as well, each of them are 30 day qualifiers.

If you have the Traditional Badge, then honoring DEAN by seeking a specific brand badge would be exceptable.

The GEC was added two years ago, the CASE last year and Opinel this spring for a monthly challenge that was completed in April ()
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 1

This Case 18 pattern medium stockman will be my carry for this challenge for the time being.  F&F and W&T on this example are excellent.

The 18 pattern is a bit on the small side for my preferences, but still a very capable knife.  The smaller size and rounded bolsters make it an easy pocket carry.

Some people don’t like how proud the sheepsfoot blade often sits on the 18 pattern.  Personally, I think this is handy as it allows the blade to be pinched open, saving my fingernails.

Another feature of the 18 pattern that can be off putting to some is the unusually narrow clip point main blade.  However, I have come to appreciate how it fits in places that a larger blade might not, e.g. under a bracelet, zip tie, etc.

One feature that makes this 18 pattern unusual are holes in the blades in place of nail nicks. I don’t find a significant functional difference, and suspect the decision to go with holes was due to manufacturing costs/efficiencies with the higher end steel…

Another usual feature is that this particular version has CPM20CV blades, as well as the “PILOT TEST RUN” marking on the main clip point blade.

I've seen scouts with a saw added, but never one with it instead of an awl. I think I'd rather have the awl, but always cool to see something new.

That's a nifty Case. I usually go for the 47, but I can see how the smaller size is sometimes hand.

30? Scouts in 30? Days: Day 1

My birth year demo knife, a 1989 Camillus. This is probably my most carried scout. I love that nice thick blade belly, long driver, and the can opener that looks like it could open a dump truck.

I was looking to see how far I could get this month only using scouts, and the answer was until about 5 o'clock today, when I needed pliers to fix the toiler. Oh well, we'll see how the rest of the month goes.

So Day 1 was my selection of knives day.

Day 2
I cleaned a little old Mikov and gave it little bit of edge care too. It is not crazy sharp yet (can it ever be) but it can cut things now :)

BPRoberts - mine has an awl too. However not very useful I have to say.
Back in the days of communism we couldn’t get products from “corrupted West” so our companies created similar products. We have our own version of Coca Cola called Kofola (it is suprisingly really good I must say) and Mikov knives was response to a SAKs. This particular one was from hunting series I would say. There were bigger folders called “Fixir” and then these small. They basically changed standard plastic scales for these “antlers” scales (also plastic I guess). However this was the best you could get back those days…
I used this knife for 15 years during my boy scout era (camping, hiking, edc). After that I had my first Wenger and this one was left alone in my drawer. Now it can shine again :)

I actually just used it for some soft cutting. As my dog is stomach sick I cooked some rice for him so I needed to cut the sack with the rice…

However I want to get me some nice stockman, probably from Case or Buck. Btw I guess classic 110 or 112 would count too for this challenge, right? I bought two 112s when I lived in the US and gave them to my dad and grand dad so I don’t have any which is shame…

End of story for today. Sorry for the long post.

Assuming you are from the Czech Republic. You have a great country with an interesting history. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit. Had a great time. The food is incredible.

By the way, you guys make some good firearms that are popular here in the US as well!

Your assumption is correct.
Thank you for such a nice words!
25 years after the revolution changed the country a lot. We are part of the NATO and EU. Things are fine now, especially in comparison to what is going on in Hungary, Slovakia and of course Ukraine.
Economy is fine. We are focused mainly on car industry but there are plenty of other interesting stuff. You mentioned guns, that is correct. CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka means Czech Armory) and its guns are very famous all over the world. Last year CZ acquired Colt and  Colt CZ Group was established so technically all Colt guns are Czech now :D

Day 2, GEC & Scout

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My 1st GEC!  A #23 Trapper, a LARGE Trapper along side a Camillus Scout Jr, (a 2nd, Xed out)!  Similar to Cub Scout knife I received back in 1961/62. But not!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
A closer look.   This beauty, was originally Sos24’s, she offered, and we worked out a trade.  Luv this model, compared with my Buck 112 and Panama Jack by size😉, functional and beautiful in Brazilian Cherry.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
