I think many of us have a fixed blade fixation.

I can think of at least 3 fixies that I’d love to buy now, but don’t have funds.

I can think of many more than three fixies that I'd like to buy...but I have the same lack of funds problem.

Might as well...

Local antique store (which typically has good prices, especially given I'm a regular) has what looks to be an actual Nepalese Kukri (NOT a cheap mall ninja replica). Been wanting to try one, and it'll probably see some use in the challenge when I'm doing clearing work. Been wanting to try one for ages.

Fireman is in! Day 1  I was about to give up, but after digging through the rubble on my desk, I found my kiridashi!  I bought it a long time ago from a knifemaker in Brazil.  This will be my primary knife for the month.

Fixed Blade Challenge Day One

Left the house Monday and forgot to pack my Esse 4.  ::) That's alright though as House of Blades is right around the corner from the hotel. Gave me a chance to look around.

Found a Becker BK-11 that is inconspicuous using in state government facilities. This knife feels good in the hand and has a pretty nice sheath. Good retention.

Day 1:

CRKT SPIT. I wanted a small sheepsfoot fixed blade for EDC, but was dismayed that most were VERY expensive customs.

CRKT announced the SPIT a couple years back, and I was already sold at $40. I was completely sold last year when Tractor Supply had them for $15. Since then, it's become my go to pocket fixed blade.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My main use today--unpacking a new lawnmower.

I have been moving most of the smaller stuff to cordless (predominately Hart 40V from Walmart--basically just rebranded Ryobi with non-interchangeable batteries), and honestly was a little dismayed that most cordless mowers capable of keeping up with my old Craftsman M220 were priced at upwards of $500.

This one was $150 on end-of-season clearance, down from $550. Came with two 6 amp-hour batteries and a single-bay fast charger.

One small problem--charger is defective and registers most batteries as bad (even the 4.0 amp hour battery in my trimmer that I'd just used)--refusing to charge them.  I'm waiting back on Hart to replace it under warranty (a bit of a hitch there as these are old, 2022 stock)--but if they don't, I'll splurge on the dual bay fast charger for like $90.

That being said, the basic charger that came with my trimmer will charge them--just extremely slowly.

Excellent start everyone. :hatsoff:
So far, I'm wondering how big is Fireman's Kiridashi, how did I miss the CRKT SPIT being on sale for only $15, how does Pacu get in government buildings with a knife when every time I go I have to leave everything in the truck, and what is gra_farmer slipping in Mrs. farmer's drinks to keep her around for 10 years????  Just kidding that last one.  Happy anniversary to gra_farmer and Mrs. gra_farmer.

Happy anniversary, gra_farmer!

Day 1

I'll start off with the CRKT Civet. This is a pretty small fixed blade that makes for a good neck carry. Better yet, it was pulled from the surprise box.

I thought I would start with the knife I blame my small fixie fixation on.  I had tried a couple fixie prior to this Bark River Essential, but never considered edc a fixed blade knife until this one.  Now, I almost always have a fixed blade of some sort on me

Welcome aboard TexasAKM. Show us whatcha got!

We're off to a very cool start today. I love Becker's designs. Haven't gotten any yet, but several on my want list. CRKT really carved ( ) a niche out for themselves in the small fixie game, and I'll be showing a few of theirs as well. I've never heard of a kiridashi before, but it looks like a handle little thing to keep as a beater. A less disposable utility knife. I'm glad we're continuing our Jarritos subchallenge from last month.

Day 1

Last knight's mystery knife was from Balsam Ridge Workshop out of Wellsboro, PA (home of George "Nessmuk" Sears). I visited this summer and picked one up as I was started to dabble in small fixies a bit more. Cool little shop, get Dean to give you the tour if you're ever in the area.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

This one is a bit fancier than most of the others I'll be showing, but very much in line with what I plan to carry most days this month. Small blade, three finger handle, and a chonky lanyard for you to wrap your pinky around. Sheath is nicely hand made and sturdy. Not quite ideal for pocket carry, but it's got that great leather smell.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

It might not be much, but I really appreciate the convenience of a fixed blade for orange slicing/peeling. A quick wipe and it's good to go, no worry about getting crud inside the joint or anything like a folder.

Some nice CRKT knives Farmer and Cody

I like the skeleton handle choices nate and Pacu

Nice to see an Esse make an appearance.  At one time I thought Esse was synonymous with edc fixed blade.

Happy Anniversary.  A nice gift.  Gra farmer

Happy Anniversary gra_farmer!  That's a very cool gift from a very loving wife.

Day 1

I've been wanting to test drive carrying a small fixie so this will be a good challenge for me.

First up is this $20 Amazon special.  It's a TOKNIFE Runner neck knife and it's 8Cr14MoV steel.  It's pretty sharp out of the box but the Kydex sheath needed to be reworked a bit as it was pretty tough both removing it and inserting it into the sheath.  Nothing a hair dryer couldn't fix though.  I wanted to carry it on my belt so the included paracord made a nice lanyard.  But, the clip on the sheath is pretty weak.  It's doing it's job holding onto my belt but I don't like the angle it's at.  We'll see how I like it as the week progresses.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

That is definitely a small fixie.  I think you will find it is easier than one would think to carry a small fixie.

There are many good looking fixies, i definetly follow this thread. I tought first join this but most of my post would be vanity pics since i dont find many uses for it. Tho i have few fixed blades but carrying is prophited here without good reason and i could be fined and maybe loss tool too.

Happy anniversary gra_farmer!

We'll see how long I go without ordering a kiridashi...

Day 2

You can't really talk about small EDC fixies without bringing up the CRKT/Alan Folts Minimalist series. Just enough knife/handle to do some work, small enough to pocket or knife carry (good implementation of the 4th finger lanyard) and a million different blade shape/color combos/handle. They're well put together and take an edge well, especially for the price. I think they're probably the best "starter" fixie for someone who wants something small to dip their toe in.
