Day 15: Halfway!  So far, the Executive has covered 99 percent of what I've needed, which is mainly cutting open things.  I wonder what uses General Yeager had for his?  I love its size, being just a bit bigger than the Classic and Esquire and fitting my hand a little better.  Its flatness is a gift in pocket carry, or on a lanyard like the one pictured.  It's a handy way to carry a knife around your neck.

I seem to recall reading that he was an advocate of using one's everyday knife out in the field. So I think he used it for everything.

I read his book when it first came out.  I could do with a re read.  From his time outrunning the Gestapo, etc when he got shot down, I bet he had an Opinel laying around his house too!

I can see that if bagels fell from the sky while in the wild!

But for me, at the homestead, a good serrated blade works best.    Then you also need a wide blade to spread gobs of cream cheese on each half properly.

Then again I am more of a ENGLISH MUFFIN type, CINNAMON/ RASIN preferred with peanut butter😎


But, then that EVERYTHING BAGEL looks pretty tasty!!!

I am surprised Mrs R lets you play with your food😱
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Yessir.  Pam's had a lot of issues with her hips, including multiple replacements.  Every so many years, she has a check up with her surgeon to make sure everything is ok.

I can attest to the affect Barry has on promoting desire to own a model he sports during his challenge.

The pricing on the EXEC s have escalated in the past several months.  Good Luck locating one at reasonable price.

I love that one of yours Gordon!  Poncho, too, is a big Exec fan.  I quit carrying mine because of the value too.  Mine was used when I got it, a prize from a GAW FoBo did during a challenge quite awhile ago.  I think Vic missed a real opportunity with a 74mm Mini Champ model.  I like the 58s, but I really like a few more mm of length to work with.  It's the same reason I like a No 9 over a No 8 Opinel.

Day 19: Cutting open a Christmas card with the small blade.   I've always used the small blade as my primary blade on my Vics.  I like holding the big blade in reserve.

We have opposite approaches there. I rarely use the small blade, so a single blade works a little better for me. But at least the small blades on my SAKs retain their factory edges for a good long while!

I think I'm in the minority with the small blade, Dan.  I started doing that when I worked in the stores, opening packages.  There was less chance of damaging contents with the smaller blade than the larger one.  The habit stuck with me.

Comparing the Exec small blade with the Mini Champ, they're very close if not the same length.
