I wonder if one of those lite modules can be modified to have better light output...mod the mod? I've heard of doing the same to keychain lights. The fly in the ointment with having a light on the SAK though: what do you do when you need both the light and the tool?

I guess you position it facing the direction with the tools you are most likely to use in the dark. It seems to me having a led light built into such a small space is better than having another big, bulky penlight outside your SAK. That said, I have considered having Syph007 add this more versatile led light to a custom SAK http://www.photonlight.com/led-flashlights/photon-freedom-micro-led-keychain-flashlight/

Lol, that price is ridiculous.

Such a lamp is << .50$ in manufactoring costs.

Nope. :D The Photon Freedom is far more than a simple fauxton keychain light (only a 5mm LED and 2 CR2016 batteries). It has an actual user interface, different modes, dimming, ...

Tonight's project was a farmer with metal saw layer added.

I decided this is the best layer arrangement for putting the dual saws on a 93mm alox.

Blade
Wood saw
Metal saw

All the nail nicks are perfectly accessible, and I also prefer as many tools as possible to open on the main blade side as it makes sense if you lanyard carry.

Very nice. I like the Vic metal saw. One of the better ones found on any multitool.

That's my baby, and that's the plan.  I'll be pairing it with a Leatherman S2 for outdoors/hiking duty.

I told you in a PM but I will post it here as well for the benefit of all. I am very glad I have been here to see your work from the begining. I have the pleasure to own a few of your early mods in this thread. I hope you stay at it a long time...to the displeasure of my wallet and my wife. We have lost to many talented modders.

Shhh... top secret stuff here... I just finished up 'The Detective'. :D

It turned out pretty cool in the end, even with the plastic parts.

It was a huge pain getting that light module fit on though. Its so fragile I had to use some metal parts on the side to actually support it or it would crush itself on the strong metal backsprings.  This way the load is taken up by the side metal parts instead of the plastic body.

Oh also it was 0.015 too wide to work with dual opener springs, so I shaved 0.008 off each side of the plastic body and then it fit just right.

Let there be light.

And some finale pics.

It was impossible to photograph, but if I have the blade extended and light on, it actually made a pretty decent tool to cut stuff in the dark with.

Cheers

Lovely!

I will relish the day that someone modifies a Photon style light into SAK-compatible metal housing for mods.

That is a pretty mad mod, really.  I just finished the S1 and S2 run of Sherlock and the sak would make a great tool for S3!

Make it so!

A blue cadet with scissors and a pocket clip!  Knifekits sells these very small steel clips that just suit a cadet size perfect I think.

I'm finding it impossible to see a modded Alox in this thread by Syph007 that I actually don't like. :)

Yup Im loving these little clips and I think they'd work great on 93s too.  Thats a knifekits one and they come black too.

So I see a orange ceralox with black liner, and black screws and clip next.

Knifekits do some great parts - I've had a few of their low rider To clips which are very nice.

Great work, Dr.Syph!

Yep that is yours! :D  It's going to the post office as soon as the snow subsides here and I shovel out. :D  That little pocket clip worked out just perfect.  I ordered another 10 in for other work as I know lots of other people are going to want them now too.  Its not in the way at all to use any of the tools.  That other one you had sent with it would have felt too big for sure.  So all in all, I think you'll like it.  :tu:

Did you use stock liners on this Cadet? These look thinner than yours.

Yep those are vic liners.  They work ok, but I do find them on the thin side for building up multilayer mods, and it takes extra care on assembly as they sure bend easy.  My modded scissor layer has alot more spring force than a normal layer too.
