Vari,
what tool is the bit driver out of and which clip is that?

Looks like a Wave/Charge large bit driver and the clip is probably a Kick clip  if it was from a Sideclip it wouldn't be as shiny :salute:

He can confirm but that is what would fit and what it looks like to me

cnlson the clip is from a Kick just as Poncho65 stated. :tu:

The bit driver is from a Surge Gen 2(only version I could get). The nail notch flat was ground flat, enlarged the lock slot and profiled the outer pivot area. The part where the locking pliers adjustment screw is, a notch was machined, allowing the handle to close up more. Added a counter-sunk a magnet to keep it closed since removing the phillips screwdriver which was keeping it closed before.

  Poncho65

I should not take the credit as I did not do the mod ( :twak: I watched). I only provided the materials and my friend in the Philippines did the work while visiting him.

that is more work than i would want to do on my own. if it was a drop in that would be awesome. The clip is an interesting addition tho. I have a kick somewhere. I'll look at the clip on it.

Awesome work on the Crunch.  I wish it were a drop in as I'd be all over that.

I would be hip for a Crunch Challenge some time, if we could get the critical mass needed for a badge.

Thanks Aloha, much appreciated.

I agree and wish it was a drop in mod too.

It seems the Crunch is the only Leatherman that uses a larger locking bar but a smaller pivot profile.  :dunno:

It being the first LM with a locking tab type system could be why  just theorizing here and don't know for sure

That makes sense. :salute:

My friend received a Wave/Wave+ Large Bit Driver and it fits much better but you still need to enlarge the locking slot.

He says their is no need to regrind the pivot profile.

This is just for information if any one else want to try.

Thank you for that.  That seems doable with out a lot of modding.  Hmm << looks for spare Wave/Charge bit holder >>

I missed it, what $6 tool did that pocket clip come off of?

Also... why the leatherman 2.5D bitdriver? The Crunch already comes with a perfectly suitable 1/4 bit driver that takes standard bits and holders.

Charles.

I will say they would rather have the convenience of not having to take the adjustment screw out when wanting to use the 1/4 inch bit driver

Plus having a LM bit kit is much more compact than a set of 1/4 inch bits :salute:

I can see the convenience perhaps. But a set of bits in a plastic rail takes almost no space. Plus my motorcycles use either metric allen or security torx, the ladder of which I do not believe are available in flat LM bits. (And if they were, the cost would be exorbitant)

Charles.

Given how long the Crunch has been around and how long you have been buying Leatherman tools, I figured you had a user somewhere.

You must forgive me for not going through all 87 pages on this thread, but does anyone have tips for modding tool into the crunch? i just got a wingman file im planning on replacing with the original one and i already noticed i have to not only modify the notch for locking, but also remove the original finger nick and make a notch for the stopping rod. anything else?

The Wingman, Sidekick , Rev and Bolster individual tools are not the best drop ins for most other tool

Lots of grinding to fit

Some of the old school tools (PST, PST II and similar sized tools) would be a bit easier and possibly drop in mods   We have had a few people do different things with the Crunch but it is one tool I have never modded personally :salute: and can't comment on it for sure

Welcome to :MTO:

Thing is, I don't think any other file would fit in the crunch. I ended up just going for it. there was some grinding but I finished it within the morning and it works perfectly! also if anyone wanting to mod a crunch reads this take note of the direction of the plates between the tools. you should insert them with the larger part inside the frame and the tools in the open position. I hope this will make more sense for someone who disassembled the tool. my next mods would probably be once I get a bit more stable and an OHT, but this was a good start.
