I stopped at a small local gun and outdoor shop to have a look around today. They don't have the best knife selection by any means but was surprised to find that they just started carrying Spydercos. I picked up a Endura. I like it so far.

That is a whole lotta knife right there!  Nice.

Although not the same, I have the Pacific Salt which has the same handle as the older Endura and a slightly different blade shape and I really like it's size.

It's easy to be critical and complain but I think Spyderco should have left the stainless liners out of the Endura and Delica series knives.  Having toted around the Generation 1, they are much lighter and a joy to carry and seem just as strong as the one's with liners.  They are solid!  It really balances them out with just a slight blade heavy feel.
I do like the adjustable torx pivot though which they bought onboard recently.
They should go back to the series 3 handle as on your Pacific, keep the adjustable pivot, introduce a few new colors, and call it a day or a few years at the very least.  ;)

I totally agree, but apply it to the Delica as well.

I thing you're bang on the money there mate.  :tu:  Love the pivot, but would prefer it to be liner-less.

thanks Ben,

have you seen the translucent g-10 scales on that new Spyderco Leafstorm?  I'm not sure if I'm alone but I love that look.  Would like to see it on a few other models.
Anyhow, I think I'll head into W & W today.  Thinking of picking up a paramilitary in D2 and the new Persistence.

i agree with everthing you mentioned sean. i don't think the liners are necessary plus i like the D3 handles better. i do like the D4 blade design better than the D3 though.... i've carried my new D4 since the day i got it. when it came time to sharpen it i had a slight learning curve but that VG10 does touch up nicely after i got use to the angle.

Glad you like the Delica and Endura's, they really are a great working knife at a still affordable price for the average person.  I'm sure they would last someone a lifetime as well with a bit of TLC.

Will let you know how I like the Persistence and take a few pic's as well.  Jay was mentioning that it's the best selling knife right now on the planet!

I know the Paramilitary in D2 has been written to death so won't elaborate on that one even though she's a beaut!
Apparently there were about 1200 made and W&W bought 350 of them I was told.  It was too good a price to let go bye.

Oh you got it already? How do you like the compression lock? When I tried it I hated it, the lock release is right under my thumb. Maybe I'll try it again.

I do have to say though the Para compression lock is really quite nice.  The g 10 is nicely textured and you can get a good purchase on it so when I release the lock all my fingers are clear of the slot and I just give it a bit of a shake and the blade falls a wee bit then I just complete the close with my thumb.
The handle seems to fit my hand quite well.  The one thing I quite like about my Millie's is the fit and finish are tops and the Para is no exception.  They really are amazing knives.
I would be inclined to give it another go.  I cringe a bit at paying over $150 for knives even though I have in the past a few times but the Para by Spyderco is quite the value at $109 especially when you consider it's a discontinued model and when it's gone that's it.

I bought a Swiss Army Tinker yesterday so carried it for day.  My new books arrived "Whittling"
and "Whittling twigs and branches" so it was befitting.

Personaly I like the stainless steel liners of the E4 and D4 and like the handle shape better also. I only thing I`d change is to FFG the blade which Sal is working on at the moment along with some different handle colors.

Those sound like some interesting books on whittling.

David,

I'll bet made it a very nice carry/user?  I've seen that knife done by Krein with a bit
higher grind as opposed to a full and then a bit of a back swedge.  I like your full flat grind
though.  ;)

That's beautiful, David!  It's almost exactly what I wish the Salt 1 was.  I do have a couple of questions though...how is sharpening it after the regrind?  And how much, if at all, did the regrind thin out the blade?  Looks very sweet!

Sharpens easily. It thinned the blade quite alot. All that big hunk of H1 on the point is gone. It slices very well. If one wanted  better cutting and retain the strength in the point it could be reground like Sean talked about above with a high hollow grind with swedges.

Is the compression lock the one with the plastic gizmo that releases the lock?

I've never seen one in person, only pics.  But, I was kind of disappointed to see Spyderco using plastic for a critical moving part of the lock mechanism.

Tell me why this isn't a concern.  Tell me why they used plastic for that part instead of metal.
