Spyderco's Persistence in China.
on: August 23, 2009, 04:50:55 AM
Another great example of whats out there and for very little money from a country that sometimes gets hammered for quality control.
It's only about 3 weeks old, and is already supposedly the best selling knife on the planet!  The Tenacious (some call it the bigger brother) took time before people started realizing that Spyderco China were some of the best value knives available to be had anywhere.  Not this time around.  Persistence pays off...

Persistance's handle is pretty much same as tenacious isn't it? I didn't like how the handle is much larger than blade.

Jzmtl,

the handle is a bit smaller on the Persistence.  keeping in mind though of course that the blade is smaller also.  :)

...it's a bit narrower as well so it does feel different in hand than the Tenacious.

Hey Sean, thank you so much for the pics.  I'm already liking the blade, but do you have a Tenacious that you can put next to the Persistence for comparison?  And do you have any impressions yet?

Still longer than I'd like for that size of blade thou, looks disproportionate. I know spyderco's reasoning, I just don't agree with it.

Yes, it's a bit funny isn't it when you see the handles on some of the knives being much larger than the blades?
It was one of the reasons I had bypassed the Military's and Paramilitary's for such a long time.
The thing is though once you get them in hand (for me at least) it's amazing how that all changes...it just feels so comfortable and so right.  It's a bit like stepping from a rubber boot into a high end running shoe.  :D

I love my Tenacious but haven't gotten a Persistence yet. I have gotten used to carrying larger blades. How much lighter is the Persistence over the Tenacious.

the persistence is about one half an ounce lighter than the tenacious.

I´d take one in a second if it had a Spyderedge. But Sal says there will be plain edge only, so I´ll skip that one. Still love my Tenacious (might get a second, serrated, one for mine is plain edge and I need a serrated beater)

I know I bought two Tenacious with serrations and gave them both away as gifts.  However, one went to my son and I've used it occasionally at work and the aggressive teeth make short order on a lot of duties.
I took a look at a few Spyderco flat ground knives the other day at the shop one being the UK Penknife.  It's quite small but nice.

The amazing thing about the Persistence and Tenacious is the obviously the value.  The blades sit dead center in the
slot and lock up solid properly.  I only paid $38 CDN for the little gaffer.
