My nightstand drawer was getting over crowded so I came up with this:

Top Drawer: Boxes, various sharpeners, takedown tools, parts.

Next Drawer: SAKS, SAK parts, small lockbacks.

Next Drawer: Multi's with sheaths, RAT-3.

Last Drawer: Tactical knives and Flashlights.

Its getting crowded, but it is a lot more organized.

I've downsized quite a bit, but everything gets used in this set up, just waiting on my Manix 2 from GG.

Yes it does, granted, so does yours, Chako.

How're you liking the RC3, Zack?  It felt nice in the hand, but the sheath, to me, left a bit to be desired.  Still, it's quite a nice green. :)

The sheath is ok, big problem evidently with the Ontario Rats.  The RC Rats supposedly have a better sheath, but for what I am going to use it for it will be fine.  I just need to find a drop leg rig for it and I will like it a lot more.

Chako, your set up is what inspired mine.  I had a bunch of hand tools in mine that I never used.  I chucked them in a bag for the time being, I like this a lot better.  Plus, I can lock it so the little one can't get in it, and the wife is happy that my nightstand doesn't look like a disaster.

Chako,

Something like the one you got I have been looking into myself. Though I'm trying to do it on the cheap and in something other than red. Not having much luck at the moment.

Currently part of my Knife/SAK/MT collection rests in a couple of these I have.......

(Image removed from quote.)

........but the two I own are full. I need me something like that Craftsman.

2xTap,

Are those Camper knives in the top right drawer?  Are they Case?  One looks like it might be a Camillus.  I have a few Case Camper knives and a couple Camillus myself.  Great knives, of course Case is better and more collectible, but I have a soft spot for Camillus.

Since this is a continuation of the story, I have decided to resurrect this old thread.

Well, looks like my storage issues continue.  I guess I knew this day would come, but this time, I am in a bit of a quandary.  I have somehow filled the Sears Craftsman storage chest and cabinet. Now I am in need of some expansion room.

Here is the problem drawer by drawer…

The top expansion drawer with lid is now full. In fact, I have several layers, with MTs on the bottom, and larger items that I do not wish to separate from the sheaths on top. So much so that this space has become unusable and rather messy.

Now here we have the next 3 drawers. The middle one is very deep and holds the Victorinox Battle series and the set of Astrology Classics. I do have a bit of room to put something else in here. The left drawer contains mostly cheap MTs. I am now forced to place a double layer in here as seen by that single MT atop the others. The right most drawer holds my ever expanding Bear & Son collection. At first, when I designated this drawer to hold the Bear & Son items, I had only assigned half the drawer. Getting so many has exceeded my expectations, and almost the allotted space. However, if I take any more in, I do not have much expansion room.

The next drawer was assigned to keychain multi-tools. However, half is now occupied by Seber (I got the name right!) and Swiss+Tech gear. Much of the expansion room went into filling that bottom layer of the top tray.

Next we have the Victorinox and Buck drawer. As you can see, I don’t have any room for anything else. I think I have all the Victorinox models I want, but there are still a few Buck X-Tracts that I will want in the future.

This drawer is packed with IDWorks and miscellaneous locking pliers.

Now, when I first got into collecting, I figured I would be done with just 4 SOG models. Little did I know there was so much more? So I designated a very small section to the SOG family. Well, that collection has outgrown the small drawer, let alone the original 4 slots. I had double layering, and that back section bugs me something fierce.

The Leatherman stuff keeps growing, albeit slowly, but it is still growing. Originally, I had assigned 2 large drawers to this grouping. Now I find myself outgrowing them. Not sure exactly where I will add the 3 MUTs I plan on getting whenever I can. It also bugs me that I am now having to split some of my larger MTs into this drawer, as seen by the 3 Waves and the Sideclip…and the few other things added in.  I originally wanted to store the various Leatherman adaptor kits on this drawer, but I ran out of room. They are now residing in a lower storage drawer.

As you can see, no room on this drawer. In fact, I will be forced to move the minis up one drawer…if there is room, when I get that other Juice from Nuphoria.

Now this was originally a deep drawer to store the larger MT items. However, I had to add quite a few single items in here, such as a few Schrade products, the Leatherman adapter kits, MT.O special gear, etc… No room for anything else.

Remember that storage drawer that held my meager knife collection. Well, I eliminated much of that so that I could store the SOG overflow. The other right hand drawer now holds some of the Wenger and Vic collection items.

My utility knife collection has now filled up its drawer with no room for expansion. The other expansion drawer is not full of SAKs.

I had only given a big drawer for the Wenger collection, never thinking in a million years that I would outgrow the space. Well, I have. Now I have Wengers in other drawers as well. I like to keep similar things together, and this is bothering me a little.

Likewise, when I bought the cabinet and chest, I had a lot more Victorinox than I did Wenger. I figured I would stop once I had two large drawers full. Well that didn’t happen as seen by the filling of several smaller drawers.  Regardless, this drawer and the next are full of Victorinox items.

The next drawer once held several compases and other items. Well, today, the Gerber collection has expanded into this space. Interestingly enough, when I first bought the chest, the SAK collection was going to stay in the upper smaller chest, and the MT collection would stay in the lower larger cabinet. Well things conspired and I had to switch the collections around due to various expansions. Then I got into Gerbers recently and had to put them down into the lower cabinet. So much for organization.

I had to use a relatively deep drawer for the Gerbers. A bit of a waste of space, but I had no choice.

The next equally deep drawer that holds the Gerber collection one drawer up is also full. Full with SAK kits, books, literature, advertizing stuff, cleaning and repair kits, etc… I took off the Swiss Army change mat that covered it all in many of the preceding drawer photos.

Now we come to the deepest drawer that holds all the real special SAKs. Those that I want to keep in their boxes, etc.  Well, I am quickly running out of room here also.

Well, I can’t really believe it, but I have outgrown this storage space. There is still a bit of room, but that won’t last long. I do have several options, but some of them clash with my need to keep things a bit orderly. I can expand back into the corner curio cabinet, even though that is now filled with SAK and MT boxes and sheaths, or I can buy another unit and really organize things. If I do that, I come to a space issue. I really don’t have space in my small house for another unit without some major furniture moving. Another thing I could do I guess would be to put all the MTs back into their respective sheaths and just pill them in, but that would suck if I wanted to see what I had, and this would truly be an act of last resort.

Guess I have some thinking to do on the matter.

In regards to separate drawers...I sure hope not!  :o

Yes, I am still rocking the knifeless Fuse. It has everything I need, and I do not miss the blade at all, as the small scissors do all the cutting work I need to do. :tu:

Silentsniper441, you are looking at mostly shelf queens here. I do tend to wear a new addition for a few days just to see how it feels, but due to work restrictions, I wear the knifeless Fuse almost exclusively and have found it to be a steadfast partner for my day to day needs.

I've been thinking of going the route of knifeless multitool or SAK, and rocking a standalone blade in a more discreet location, but I'm not sure what tool to do.

How would you compare SOG, Leatherman, and Victorinox scissors?

Scissors...well...what follows is highly subjective. What I like does not mean it will be what you like...but here are my opinions.

I decided to compare these tools. Seeing that the Victorinox Swiss Tool and Swiss Tool Spirit are so different, I included both of them.

SOG
Pros:
-   Super smooth spring action.
-   Nice cutting action.
Cons:
-   You have to press down a long ways to complete one cut.
-   Blade length is small for the size of the scissors, and the handle throw.
-   Scissors misaligned with body so that you can't use the scissors with the MT closed as easily as you should be able to.

Victorinox Spirit
Pros:
-   Most comfortable scissors to use.
-   Very ergonomic.
-   Very short handle throw.
Cons:
-   Smallest blades means it will take a bit of time to cut anything of length.
-   Handles are fixed, meaning you can’t open the blades any wider meaning you are limited with what you have.

Victorinox Swiss Tool
Pros:
-   Nice blade length.
-   Scissors are in a good alignment with the MT body. You can use these easily with the MT closed.
-   Blades can be opened wider, allowing all sorts of ulterior uses such as using a blade as an awl, etc…
-   Very nice and comfortable handle throw.
Cons:
-   Spring can get lost or damaged easily.
-   Narrow thumb contact point will cause sensitivity and soreness over time.

Leatherman Knifeless Fuse
Pros:
-   Blade length for compact size is best in the class.
-   Scissors are in good alignment with the MT body.
-   Blades can be opened wider.
-   Nice expanded flat tab for thumb.
Cons:
-   Size of scissors could be enlarged to fit handle space better. It is a bit on the compact side of things.
-   Nail nick on scissors body can be sometimes hard to get, as the scissors have a tendency to settle down deep in the handle at times. Not always, but it does happen.

So there you have it, my general feelings on these four multi-tool scissors. I feel the SOG and the Spirit have the worst scissors. The SOG for having such a long handle throw, but worst yet, aligning the scissors in such a way that the handles of the multi-tool get in the way. The Spirit does not give you much room to work, and with the fixed blades, is a bit of a poor performer. The larger Swiss Tool has the scissors right, as does Leatherman with its smaller but equally good performer.

Thanks for your time and opinion yet again, Chako my brother.

What I was thinking of doing is customizing a PT-510, taking out the knife and throwing in scissors and what have you. On that frame do you believe the scissors have the same problem as with the bigger powerlocks?

... the scissors do fit, right? :D

EDIT: Also, is it just me or do the Leatherman scissors seem to not fit together as nicely? I have trouble making cuts closer to the ends a lot.

I have never done this...but I think you can't do it. On their web site, SOG clearly states that the scissors are only compatible with the Powerlock. My guess is the scissors are too large to fit into the PPP form factor. Might be someone on here knows more about it then I do and will come in with better information.
