Many people here have Auto's/switchblades/flick knives?

As such knives are such a no no over here (grumble grumble) I thought it would be fun to torment both myself and everyone else who can't own them with some switchblade talk.

Anyone here own and regularly carry a switchblade? What are your thoughts on them in general?

Some pics would be great too.

Benner,

I don't own or carry any autos/switchblades.......but I do own a bunch of Assited-Openers. I don't carry any of these either as I prefer a manual opener with a flipper as a EDC piece. But of my A/O's I have a couple I really like. Here's some eye-candy of them.............

I got a few versions of the original Camillus Heat's, I like these as well, although I don't have pics of all of them taken yet.

Nice.

I have a couple of AO's as well, one of them being a H&K Nitrous Blitz;

I really like the system it uses as it seems really reliable unlike the springed designs. It is also VERY fast.

I also have a Kershaw Blackout on the way to play with.

They are all fun, but do rarely get carried.

I've had a few autos, all Benchmade's, but none currently. However, I'm getting the itch & am wonderin' if I get the auto ruckus, if I can mod the auto parts into the full size Ruckus I currently own endin' up with a 4 1/2" auto?

I had a bunch of Microtech OTF's , Scarab , UTX70 , and a really nice Halo . Only one I regret selling was the Halo . I also had a couple of Benchmade autos ( Mini Reflex , AFO , and Autobenchmite ) . I found all to be more trouble than they were worth , and a Spyderco could beat them for speed . The Balisong were a different matter , I had two Benchmade and a Microtech Tachyion , they were mice and Uber strong , tho not too fast , again a Spyderco would beat them off the line for speed . I also had an Eichorn Gravity knife , what a naff piece of kit that was .

The only one of all the above , that had any real combat utility , was the aforementioned Halo .

The Microtechs were superb in terms of fit and finish , but not worth the money IMVHO .

Seriously though - looks as if sharpening that Offset on a regular basis could be a real PITA.

Since you bring up Spyderco, the Offset is in fact no more difficult to sharpen than the Spydie Captain........

Man I would love to have a Captain. I find its blade profile very interesting and useful. Now the offset I could do without. Does this mean I don't have taste any more Ben?

Well.....whether or not you find the Offset or Captain ugly or stylish, one thing for sure is that the Captain is more pocket friendly. The Kershaw Offset is a huge folder, with a very ergonomic frame which also makes it overly thick.

Either way, they are both definitely conversation starters. Pull one of these out (in the right situation) and you'll even get non-knife people interested. Particularly with the Offset!
