How do you carry your fixed blade?
on: November 19, 2009, 07:33:04 AM
I've yet to find a way to EDC a small fixed blade concealed (for the most part) and easy to access...anyone here come up with a way to do it?

I'm thinking about blades that are MAX 3" long, maybe 7" overall length..specifically my RAT Izula and my new HEST.

Back pocket carry.

I often EDC a small fixed blade in a sheath in my back right pocket.  About 2.5 in blade length with an OAL of about 5.5 inches.

Knife rides vertical on the outboard side of the back pocket, kept in that position by a sheath to prevent it from shifting.  Outboard ride is important, otherwise sitting could be uncomfortable.

Back end of the handle sits just below the top of the pocket, which makes it easy to pull the knife free of the sheath using a thumb and forefinger grip.

If you have a knife over maybe 6.5 inches, back pocket carry may still be an option.  But, the knife probably won't be completely concealed since the end of the handle will poke up above the top of the pocket.

I have a shoulder holster for my Cold Steel Master Tanto that would be great for concealed carry- plus, if someone caught sight of the straps they might assume you are carrying a gun and be more likely to leave you the heck alone!  :D

I may try back pocket carry but tether the sheath to my belt.  Just an added bit of security.

Shoulder holsters are beyond my tactical limit :D

I would like to point out that I never carry it like this.  In fact, I never actually carry this knife as it's one of the old brass ones....

I was gonna do my infamous "I'ma gunna kutchoo!" type pose, but my wife was giving me "that look" already just taking these pics!

And Ben, you are certainly right there!

I love that blade, and in fact just about the entire Cold Steel Tanto line.  The Magnum Tanto XII is simply

Try tethering the sheath to your belt with a piece of 550 cord.  Make the cord long enough so that you can tuck the sheath IWB.  The 550 cord will keep the sheath from dropping down your pantleg, and when you draw the blade it has a ripcord affect and the sheath will just hang there.  I carry my RAT3 like this and I find it to be very comfortable, very concealable, and very easy to re-sheath.

You should have seen how it looked when I got it- talk about something to make you cry!

You can see some of the corrosion still on the tip- this poor knife had lived in a leather sheath for years, un-oiled and otherwise untouched, and it was a serious mess.  I spent hours cleaning it up, but it'll never be mistaken for new ever again.
