The picture in the auction with a MUT alongside an AR15 was taken at the SHOT show presentation. (here's a pic Grant shot with the same gun nearby)

With no picture of his own, it makes me doubtful that he actually has a MUT available for sale. :-\

I emailed him and got a response. He claims he has one up for sale.

I just got overtaken on the bid. Pondering on if I should go for this one all out or not. It would be kind of cool to nab it for plenty of photographs.

Just wondering on how he has one...and still very suspicious as he hasn't taken any photographs of it other than those that Leatherman has published.

Isn't MSRP going to be $150, when it's released?  I see it's just over MSRP now.  So now we'll see how much someone wants to pay to be able to say they had one first.  Forward ahead to September........  "Oh, Youuuuuuuu just got your MUT now?.  I've had mine since February"   :D

As someone who works with with the M-16 family and weapons of all size on a daily basis, the MUT will be definatly in my hands the day it becomes available.
For the lucky folks who already have one: I've read all the product sheets, seen all the movies as well as followed this thread religiously but haven't seen any good close ups of the MOLLE sheath or the sight wrench. Does anyone have a couple of pics they could throw on here? I've read that the wrench has a diamond file on one side and a roamer on the other. Also does the sheath have the pocket inside the sheath for a bit kit or extra bits and pieces?
Thanks for the excellent coverage so far.

Look on the first page of this thread- we had the first independent photos of the MUT up within a couple of hours of it being released.  I think we got some good ones.

I can see this creature spawning other variants . The "hammer " pommel will play well on other models , replaceable task specific implements , and long drivers will play well with lots of users . I can see an EMT and Fire version , not to mention a Police version .

Chris

This would be a dream come true.  I just entered the EMS a while ago and looking at this set up, a few tweaks would make this perfect.  I would swap the saw for some good serated scissors, and the gun specific items for an awl and some other things, and slip an O2 wrench cut out somewhere...dang this thing is fine.  honestly, LM has amazing innovations here.  My first impression was "gerber-gimmik" and "tacticool", trying to play to those guys who buy anything that relates to the word that starts with T.  But looking closer, this thing is well thought out and opens the door for a new line of products.  I think going user specific like this is a risk but if they plaay their cards right, this could be great.

I'm wondering, is it just me or is the MUT becoming a bit over hyped?  It's a nice tool, but the AR tools on it are lacking compared to the Multitasker.  If the Multitasker had been designed by Leatherman, would it be receiving the same interest?  I have no bias, I own 60 or so Leatherman MT's, but I just don't see how great of an AR maintenance tool the MUT is.  Like others have mentioned, it is a nice platform and it could be the future of several other MT's.  Comparing it's tool lineup with the Multitasker when it comes to AR maintenance it fails.  The Multitasker seems to be focused more on being an AR maintenance tool.  But it seems the MUT is trying to be too many things, an AR maintenance tool and an all around MT.

Sight wrench? You mean the spanner wrench?

Terminology differences. American M-16 family of rifles do indeed have a dedicated front post, rear aperture sight adjustment tool.current Canadian issued M-16 family,Known as the C-7A2 does away with the rear aperture and comes standard issue with a 3.4X Alcan optical sight.
Since the box end wrench was designed primarily with optical sight adjustment,I used the term we commonly use for a similar tool.
Pics available if you want.

Ah it makes sense.

I know the Colt Canada (Diemaco) specs; the ELCAN is nice glass (albeit a bit bulky), the new Elcan SPECTRE series is pretty slick though.

The std spec Multitasker comes with the 3/8" box wrench ON the tool (not as an extra throw-in); im a big fan of LaRue Tactical and all of Mark's mounts have that 3/8" tensioning nut on them, so it was one of the first tools we spec'd on our tool

I know Leatherman is the brand to beat, but I relish the challenge (in this arena).

The Multitasker looks like a excellent user/armorer maintenance tool. For myself,I'm looking at the MUT not just a pers weapon maintenance tool, but also as a all around weapons orientated tool( I have so many M-16 specialty tools that I almost never use anyway).
The one thing that really draws me in to this tool is the replacable punch holder. This lends itself to mods perfectly.I can see a whole raft of gizmos being made up in my down time.
And of course, look cool factor :D

It's fair to say that video hasn't dissuaded me from wanting one :)

They're really pushing this one aren't they? I don't recall a launch and marketing campaign like this before from LM. It must have cost them a bit to develop I guess  :P

Its a full court press for sure. I wonder how much a professional video ad like that costs? I'm guessing six figures at least... :P

Hmmm...

I don't have a Multitasker yet in the collection.

After watching that video I've gained more interest in the MUT Utility.  Because you will still need a cleaning kit, whether you're a civilian or Soldier, the cleaning rod adapter and the bronze carbon scraper seem unnecessary.  But the bolt override tool, the removeable firearm disassembly punch and hammer are are nice innovations.  They aren't marketing it as a AR maintenance tool but more like "a Soldier's best friend in the field".  I had to laugh at the part where they were cutting into a steak.  And how on one hand the expert is showing how to use the bolt override tool and later you see Junior cutting his fishing line at camp.   :D    I imagine it will be a very big seller for them.  As I've mentioned earlier in the thread, I will end up buying one.  Most likely the non BO Utility MUT, but not the EOD.

I think that they need the Gerber logo on that one in the middle picture.   Lot of "borrowed" ideas on that one ::) 8)
