I'm intrigued by the serrated vs. plain-edge debate.

I've got the plain edge version and have been perfectly happy with it, although, I tend to use it for short periods of time out on the water, especially salt water. So, my experience maybe biased.

Nevertheless, the serrations look like a pain to resharpen well and the plain-edge is fairly easy to sharpen. So, I went with the plain edge.

Have you guys seen a big difference?

I much prefer SE in H1 because the difference in edge retention is obvious, you just forget about sharpening them for long time and they keep cutting and shearing  :like:

also having teeth enhances the hawkbill's grabbing power and the retention effect that the blades have on the material,  :tu: and considering that the Salts often cut lots of rope, twine, nets and webs that is a plus  :salute:

they are really easy to harpen if you have a sharpmaker or a crock stick sharpener, tapered rod, etc,
and they have a place mostly as a companion to a PE blade with steel that has higher resistance to wear and dulling then PE H1 has  ;)

Stopped at Smokey Mountain Knife Works a few hours ago on our way home from Pigeon Forge. Way too many knives in there!!  Haha

Anyway, looked the Spydies over. Really thinking about getting one of those Clipittools. I liked it once I got to handle one!

I almost bought the only one they had but having hard time dishing nearly $60 for one.

I like the Spydies for one hand opening and closing. My OH Victorinox Knives are difficult.

My LM Crater is easy to open and close but the blade is kind of short.

Can’t open my Buck 110’s one handed.

I am opposite of Peacent  about the SE vs. PE debate ;) SE have their place for many things but I find myself needing a PE much more :tu: I only ever strop the Pac Salt and only ever sharpened it one time and that was very lightly :tu: I will admit most of my cutting is cutting plastic sheeting and cutting taped up cardboard boxes open  :tu: I only usually have to strop it once a week or less :salute: I use the SE of a MT for cutting rope and things like that though  :salute:

there's a place for both  :D

in my cutting needs, 80% of the uses of my Salts involve cutting roots, twigs, thorns, vegetable fibers, vines, and organic fibers of all sorts so the sawing action is kind, and powerful teeth dominate the field. Here a longer blade (Pacific) and a curved hawkbill blade are often useful  :tu:

Also, since I'm often cutting (accidentally) into soil, sand, substrate, gravel and rock particles and such a SE will be much less damaged (and dulled) than a PE once it hits that floor and digs itself into it, thus remaining "sharp" till the day is over because the inner scallops will remain unharmed while the outer teeth and peaks get most of the damage  :ahhh

for other cutting tasks (out of work), a PE is much better and that is used for packages, boxes, tape, food, labels, containers, envelopes etc. but my use of knives there is much shorter and less demanding  :salute:  But I find that the PE portion of my Salts (the tip section) is often enough for most of those tasks too  ;)  and that part I try to keep razor sharp!   :gimme:

and that's what often gets me

I love both versions for various tasks. The serrated is great for rope and heavy duty cutting, whereas the fine edge is awesome for openining packages and carving. Either one you can't go wrong with, I usually alternate between the two throughout the week :tu:

No secret I really wanted the Pacific is plain edge, happy enough with the performance of H1 to know I would be satisfied.

Bought the SE version simply due to price, but I have to admit it's not a train smash......still really usable for any task.

Where I fully and finally fell in love with the Salt 1 was a camping/fishing trip in Match, did everything including fillet a fish  :salute:
