Thanks Mate!,
I'm pleased with it so far,
I have tried to heat treat the blade but I'm sure how it has turned out
I need to clean up the epoxy when it is hard and grind off the 4mm bolt
we will see what it looks like then  :tu:

I think it will be some kind of survival/fruit knife  :D

The chisel one is too soft if you can believe that
I did have a go at getting it red hot an dropping it in to some water but it didn't work ::)

I will need to get the file blade treated  :salute:

If you really need some good steel, i have 4-5  type. But the tempering always the weak point. And never use water(ok some special steel you can), to fast going to boiling point. Easy run oil the best.

Here you can see the heating colours(left side). Sorry but hungarian the colours name. Righ side yo can see the good colour, when "ease the tension" ( i hope is right english! :D)

Thanks for that Ash!
I knew (a little) about the colours/temperatures
but I'm trying to work with some very cheap steel so I thought I will scare it in to being some better stuff  :D
I will take my 'file' knife somewhere to get it tempered (if that's the right word) as it a good bit of steel  :tu:

sounds a bit unlikely to me :S

I actually just went and saw an old friend recently who loves knives.  he showed me a few his nephew was making for him.....all out of old files.   they looked really nice!
