A nice chap from Serbia sent me a little gift this week :D

image-2

A little Bijou.  The pouch apparently might not be original to it, its a kind of slightly padded plastic in burgundy.  Anyone else got a similar pouch?

Thanks Gojkan
Very nice lookin'  I have the small padded cases in black and brown and I think I have a 74mm brown one as well that has the padding only 3/4 of the length.  I'd say the pouch is a Vic pouch.

Gojkan  wasn't certain and neither was I as the only little pouches I've had before were the standard plastic no padded variety. Thanks for clearing that up :tu:

Having an inlaid advert on the front is reasonably unusual.  $2 is a nice bonus :D

Round here greedy is when you buy twenty SAKs in a lot and don't share, anything less is just normal behaviour ;)

I got this wonderful Custom reported to be made by Ingram Cutlery of Santa Fe. I can't find any maker's marks, can any one confirm the maker?

Uses two thick springs, but overall the knife only measures 90.25mm with it's new skin.  The Blade is a newer one with the "Swiss Made" tang. Really nice to handle, but main-blade sits just a little high.

Sorry I just mean 2 wide springs like are found on 93mm knives, so I was surprised that with the new handles that it measured 3mm shorter than my old Swiss cross 93mm EDC.

:ahhh   OK here's the picture.... Sorry looks like only the blade layer is the really wide spring, but the question remains since the other is the 93mm opener spring.  Isn't it put togetther nice?

OK, the Ingram and the old Wenger are both pretty. My haul for the past few weeks is nothing compared to them in terms of beauty. Because it has been a few good weeks, I'll post it in a couple of chunks.

First up, a Victoria-era Huntsman. Condition is good, I cleaned a lot of pocket lint from it on the outside, not a lot from the inside but I think the seller cleaned it up. The scales feel a little loose, but as much as I'd love to turn it into a carrier with a pair of plus scales, nope, not happening- I love that golden shield.

Clearly a Victoria, and it has the 5-turn corkscrew. The blade is better shape than it looks- it was being shot on a black fleece blanket for contrast, and I think some of the pile over lapped the edge. Carried a lot, sharpened a few times, but not heavily.

Because it is a Victoria, that means two things I like are here: the clipped small blade and the scraper on the bottle opener. Don't ask me why, they don't add much utility, but... I dig it.

Of course, the real slick part is the nail file. First one I've added to my collection.

So, it's opposite the scissors- didn't know that, but it's logical since I've never seen pictures of the long nailfile without scissors. So other than the length to give someone's ears a good, deep cleaning, I guess the hook with file on the Compact is really coming back to the beginning. As neat as I think this is, I think I like the Compact's hook a little better, it feels more robust.

And one thing I noticed which is kinda neat... Well, compare it to a modern Huntsman, obviously the one with the ruby scales. See what's backwards:

The snap is a little soft, but not bad for a knife older than I am. I'm guessing late 60s? All in all, it's a nice addition to my collection.

So along with this, there was a Victoria-era Fieldmaster (the next one I'll post- just a bit different from it's brother!), a modern Fieldmaster (lots of gunk in it, can't even open it, but it came free with its father), a modern Huntsman, Huntsman Lite, and two (2) Cybertool 34s.

So, my other oldie but a goodie was the Victoria Fieldmaster. A modern one came with, same auction, but it's got a lot of gunk in the blade layer, silly thing can't even be opened with the help of a screw driver, but the middle layers could be- this is interesting, and you'll see why in a bit.

The older one is on the left:

So one of the first things I noticed was the middle layers seemed to be in a odd configuration. See below, Victoria Fieldmaster, modern Fieldmaster and a modern Huntsman:

Look close. In the more modern knives, the scissors are next to the opener layer with the saw next to the blades. But in the Victoria, this is reversed! The Victoria is on the bottom in the lower pic:

I find it interesting that the Victoria era Huntsman has the same layering order as the modern knives, but with the scissors reversed so the pivot on the "opposite" side. So we've got two different sets of backsprings for what are effectively the same knife of roughly the same vintage.

The tang stamp:

Given it's age, it has the tools I'd expect: the scrapper equipped can opener, the clipped small blade, solida awl, and the semi-squared phillips with the file:

What can I say, I like nail files- my SAKs go in the woods with me, and this lets me strike a match.

And what the heck, the others I'll put in this post to. These were as a single lot. The price I paid... not telling, Cybertool fanatics will weep, but I will say that got these, with the ruby Huntsmen, for what I paid for either the Victorias.  :D

Full bit racks for both CT34s, but one of them is stiffer than a two day dead smurf in Alaska in February, so at some point it might get parted unless I can get the gunk out- anyone know a good way to clean crystal scales without dissolving them?

Having only played with these this afternoon, I know a few things. 1, it takes standard 4mm bits. 2, it isn't magnitized so my cheapie 4mm bits fall right out. 3, when I'm working on computers, I have a pair of pliers, a pair of hemostats, nail clippers (for cutting wire) and a #2 screwdriver on me. So I'm thinking... Figure out a way to put a bottle opener opposite an inline philips, pull out the pliers and scissors, and put in a wood saw and file, I might have something I like a LOT. *grins*
