I've been using these Harbour Freight mops and compound on a drill press at a low speed. If the scales are real bad I use 400 wet/dry sandpaper first. I also use these mops for polishing SAK tools and removing sandpaper scratches from the blades. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-buffing-kit-43657.html

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

May I ask what's your method for getting the scales polished/free of fine scratches?
I have not polished any of my scales.  I am curious about this as well.

Dang, with all the awesome looking vintage SAKs you have I assumed polishing was one of your main activities.  The method I'm using works pretty good, but still leaves behind the tiniest little scratches.  Probably going to try adding another grade of sandpaper or two in the process.

My bail arrived in the mail and it was swell.  The tools are in excellent shape.  Hoffritz stamp. What we now call a Super Tinker, was it always a Super Tinker?  (Couldn't find any in the catalogs I skimmed)  Anyone want to take a crack at dating this one? (Looking at you JazzBass :P)  Or any info you know would be appreciated!
Very nice shape.  It'll clean up nicely.  I sure love the file on the flat side of the phillips.   :tu:
My guess is 1961-1968...but others can narrow it down even further.
I tend to use this site as my guide:
http://victorinox.metodi.me/91mmtools.php

Thanks FB!  Yep, gonna be a restoration day for this one  :D    May I ask what's your method for getting the scales polished/free of fine scratches?  I've been using fine Sandpaper -> Rubbing Compound -> Headlight Restoring Stuff

Got any tips for an amateur?
Victoria Officier Suisse with cross bow tang stamp on the back of the main blade was used from 1968-1974 according to this chart shared by Ullie.

While the link shared by FB says that the bail was last used in 1968.

Based on the above, this narrows production date to 1968.

Some of the older SAKs I have purchased have been in great condition as I always hope to buy with original box, and with minimal use if any:

My first alox arrived today. Thanks to Sazabi for being a fantastic guy to deal with.

I got a Wenger SI and a Victorinox Pioneer. The Pioneer I gave to my Dad to supplement his Kershaw Skyline he carries everyday. I'm very happy with this Wenger.

She Cleaned up nice.  Knocked out my first Vintage Hoffritz and old file/screwdriver in one.  Someone did not get much use out of there 50 yr old SAK before TSA got their grubby paws on it.

I can't!! ..... But agree with FB - New awl/reamer makes it 1961+ ; Bail makes it 1968-
Presumably it has a 'Victoria Officer Suisse' reverse tang stamp with crossbow.
File or no file on the square Phillips?? (And no can key I'd guess)
You can also try this link for dating....
I started off using the SAAMS tool guide - But found I needed to see what tool versions were around together for a specific date (ie a row in the table) and the table works better for that.
It also has a little more info than SAAMS - although the SAAMS piccies are gold of course :salute:

@FB and SG - Will you please stop showing off all your latest acquisitions - I am just too jealous - How do you guys do it  ??? - Especially FB  - All those vintage SAKs are amazing and my favourites - Give me exposed rivets and the old awl any day  :tu:  :tu:  :tu:

@ philodemus - Watch out for those Masons - You have to be careful if you own a knife like that !!

@ MadP - You would think so - Didn't it only come out last year??

@ NCJ - Great stuff - CT Lite - One of my favourite SAKs - Keep mine in my bedside drawer it's always in use.
