Is there anything else left on your “wanted” list?

Always haha  but tbh this and the Black Beauty I got a while back were the two main ones

I collect Soldiers as well and there's one version of the 1908 I don't have as well as the older models, so they'd be top of the list
I have all versions of 51 & 61 soldiers, barring a few anomalies like dates outside of the normal range, but they become too hard to keep track of

I haven't bought a SAK since last October. I've been feeling the itch for a while now. Time to head to some junk/antique stores where I've had some luck before.

At this point, there's nothing specific that I'm looking for so I've no interest in browsing eBay. I get much more excited at spotting something random in a junk store or estate sale.
SAKs:

91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer

It's been a while since my last SAK purchase, too. That may be something to rectify soon.

I picked up two on the same day. I’ll start with the first one then do a second reply with the other.

So I picked up a Weekender off marketplace. It doesn’t look like it’s ever been used and only has fine storage scratches to the scales.
This is my first fully serrated knife and it’s actually a lot cooler than I thought it would be.
I was on the fence about picking it up but I’m glad I did.
It’s kind of got me searching out other recently discontinued knives now.
You know pick them up now before they’re crazy expensive.
I got this one ridiculous cheap so I have no idea why I didn’t just insta purchase when I first saw it.
Oh ya and it’s scary sharp. 😬

If you like reading here you go. If you don’t there’s still pictures. 🤪

Ok so I was never really into the CyberTool knives mainly because of the bit selection. I’d really only use the #2 Philips. I don’t thinks that’s enough to warrant the bit driver on my EDC. That changed once I found the “extra bits”. They’re impossible to find in Canada but that changed with some help from a nice lady in Switzerland.

Ok so that now had me thinking of making a custom. The CyberTool L is bigger than like to personally carry when I don’t have a particular task in mind. To be honest the CyberTool M kind of is too if I’m honest. I would probably reach for an Explorer before it I think.

So now I was on the hunt for the discontinued CyberTool 29 or S in Canada. Good luck! I don’t really know what official era I’d get the “29” or ”S”?  I know it’s just a name but I go by the box if I have it.

I luckily found an obscure little shop thousands of miles away across my country that showed stock. It was about $30 less than the last retail price I could find when they were still a thing. This made me think this was going to either be a scammer or it didn’t actually exist.
I bought it, they only had one because it showed out of stock after.

They actually shipped a knife to me. Yes a knife. It turned out what they had was a CyberTool M.
At first I was just bummed but then I realized how cheap they sold it to me for. I called the business and that was the only CyberTool knife they had. If there was a screw up it was their problem or simply the way their web store listed it they said. So it’s guilt free. They actually had CyberTool S pictures and specs listed online.

I did have intentions on getting an “M” eventually but in my search for the “S” I found one with blue scales that really thought I wanted.
Oh well it wasn’t meant to be and I’ll take the killer deal any day.

Congrats on the M 29roadie - even if it isn't the S you wanted, sounds like a great deal

I think I have another “S” enroute to me now. Maybe I’ll have 2 “M”s soon. We’ll see. 😆

Got this blue Alox Executive in the mail today. I think it's from the eighties, based on the scissors. I love finding unique 74mm SAKs!

Strictly a mod I guess but I've put together this retro explorer from parts I had from one I've had since my teenage years. It's been through a couple of iterations (scientist and woodsman) but these days I'm really just wanting things as they should be. About 70% period parts (all the ones that are visually different anyway). The blade is newer as is the can opener and a couple of the liners but looks pretty good as a retro user. Thanks to magentus for the eyeless awl and spring which helped keep it visually convincing ;0)

So I picked up this Champion C yesterday.
My best guess is 1976 or 77 but I’m not sure. Am I wrong? It’s older than any of the other Champion C knife I have.
Very lightly used as a lot of this model seem to be but it’s not what I would call great shape.
Oxidization on the edges of the liners makes it look worse than it is. I can clean that stuff up.
It’s got the aluminium topped tweezers still at least.

Thanks! Ya I’ve been going down the rabbit hole a little lately. Stay tuned too. You’ll get sick of me posting I’m sure.

I don’t think I have any 111mm. I’ll eventually go there I’m sure. I’m not in tune with that market if I’m honest. I have a lot of appeal for them though. I’ll look forward to any new pickups you get.

I got this in the mail today. I bought it weeks ago though.

It’s an older Compact. It’s on the left and the Compact on the right is from my regular rotation for comparison.

It’s a little rougher than I’d expected but it is a used knife so whatever. It will come apart and become something else now.
My guess is it’s 1992/93ish. When did they start putting the file on the hook?

I was kind of hoping it was a golfer but no.

Aside from the marks on the blade, it looks generally good. Are there issues with it that aren't apparent in the photos?

1998 Ok great thanks Swisster!

Farmer X it’s really hard to get pictures of it but the blade has a strange bit of tight wavyness right on the cutting edge. In the right light it’s easy to see and you can feel it. It’s almost like someone tried turning a screw with the blade in a couple of spots. The scissors also have this same thing going on. They aren’t smooth. They grind as you close them. They also have a sight tweak in them that causes them to contact the liner.
I would never sell this to someone and say it’s in good used working condition. Ya it works but….. I just wouldn’t. Probably the worst operating scissors I have on a knife.

It doesn’t matter. I’m over it now. Half of it’ll be in the parts bin. I just won’t buy from this seller again.

That makes two of the biggest vintage sellers I’ve now crossed off the list due to misrepresenting knives. Actually maybe two of the biggest sellers. They often use pictures from a previous knife. I take screenshot of interesting ads to compare maybe weeks later. Just for price and condition stuff and what they sold for. See what the market’s doing. Because of this I can tell how often the ad description is exactly the same. Just lazy seller stuff. If you don’t post pictures of the actual knife as a seller you’re just asking for problems. That goes for anything I guess.

I’m not going to name either of them so don’t ask. I don’t need enemies. This is just the risk you run buying stuff sight unseen.

Buying used knives is definitely a roll of the dice.

The warranty is one of the benefits of buying Victorinox though; might be possible to send it in and have it repaired or replaced for the cost of postage.
