1st Alox arrived from EDC Source (Tim is super fast!), Wenger Standard Issue.

Was hoping for a more American-type of can opener. Something I will have to get used to . And that awl, even if it doesn't have a slit in it like the Leatherman Juice has for sewing (if needed). Something is missing though... Universal Wrench?  :D

Found this one today. Migros is local supermarket in switzerland and they have a dedicated trademark "M Budget".

This costed me about 9$

How do you like the Wenger pliers?  I have a Serrated Master with them.  I like the slip joint on the Wenger, but overall I find the Victorinox ones far more substantial and useful.

By the way, good score, even with the postage.

I find it's pretty much "horses for courses" with the pliers. They both have their strong and weak points, but neither of them are much good for anything more than very light duty.
I have a pair of 4" long Snap-On pliers that kicks the butt of either of them.
The SAK pliers are more like tweezers on steroids.

I prefer the Wenger pliers over the Vic ones.  The slip joint feature lets them grab larger objects that the Vic can't quite get a grip on.  True, either set are light-duty tools, but I've used them far too many times to consider them a waste of space on a knife like I've heard them referred to before.  :tu:

Yes, Tim is great.  I'm surprised he still has several SI's left seeing how they've been discontinued.  If I had the money, I'd buy them up.  What's wrong with you people  ???

ICFT, +B named this SAK as the Soldier, not the Pioneer no-keyring :twak: No date stamped either ??? Is there a copyright for the "real" Soldier? :pok:

Of course I'm well aware of what +B calls this SAK (and other Pioneers).  The naming has been discussed in detail in the past you can find those threads if you're interested.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that a SAK with pliers is well worth the extra thickness. In fact I will be ripping my Yeoman apart (modded explorer, not genuine.. stop panicking) to make it into a Yeoman-Mechanic. I have the parts, just need the time and motivation. I'm quite happy EDCing an Explorer so a Yeoman-Mechanic won't be a burden.

Oh I wasn't referring to you when I said that some people consider them useless.  The pliers seem to be a love/hate thing, with more people coming down on the hate side.  My Wenger Tradesman has been too useful for me not to like the little suckers.  :tu:

Ha, that one was on my watch list.  You forgot to mention that shipping was pretty much the same amount (though to AUS it might be slightly higher).

Good to see it go to a new home.

I got a decent chance to play with the pliers on a Vic Handyman over Christmas, and the problem I have is that the pliers layer on a 91mm wights almost as much as a Leatherman Style PS, but the PS is a MUCH better plier for that weight. I don't DIS-like SAK pliers, I just think there are much better options for virtually the same weight.

I'm not going to lie and say I wouldn't like a Deluxe Tinker to play around with, because i would. It'd just never be my EDC tool(s)

My latest SAKs are a Swisstool Spirit Road Tour (with rubberized sheath) and a Farmer with Pliers (tweezers on steroids).
:woohoo:

After 10 years of use, my old Spirit (at work) and Farmer (hiking) are field proven and still in great shape. I seldom buy new tools, but I like these too much!

The Road Tour is pictured enough already, and the Farmer is, well, just peened together with added pliers.

I would like a Spirit Road Tour, but they are a bit pricey, and I already have a Spirit.  Perhaps someday when I can spare some extra cash or find a good deal on one.
