Reading the tool list shows some redundancy and questionable combinations. And those sure look like flat Phillips drivers to me. And the stubby file? Package opener?

So they asked Walmart and Target execs what "the people" want, and this what you get. A cheap "entry level" MT designed for big box retail sales. It's a money grab, ala Gerber.

If this is supposed to replace Fuse and Kick, then I think Leatherman needs to fire their R and D dept.

And now I have to wait for a redemptive design... Hope they have something better in the works than this.

I am hoping that they are Juice sized as for the flat screwdriver i am keeping an open mind i have been using flat LM bits for years and they have been working well for me unlike the Gerber flat blades.

Mike
I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

My issue is with the wieny looking file.  If this is squirt sized, fine. But if it's Juice sized, then it's definitely a HUGE downgrade from the venerable Kf4 or Xe6.  The little serrated blade thingy and hookie dohicky look like fillers to me also...

I think they look great for the $$$. If Leatherman goes to those useless Gerber type phillips drivers it will be a sad day. :(  Kind of hard to tell for sure in the picture.  :-\

At the risk of offending LM fans ... I've thought this for a while (though I'll include Wenger too)

I think it's marvellous, all the suspense, MT fans poised by their screens waiting for the big unveil ... to find out Gerber is who LM now aspire to be    I can't wait for the reviews - my £70 CS4 was a disaster with half the tools either not fit for purpose, or just plain not opening and closing properly. I dread to think what these will be like ... and no I'm not volunteering to get one to do a write up for you  >:D

Sorry guys, but I'm relatively new to MT's and LM haven't had the benefit of getting me hooked through their good years to build up that loyalty. I've only appeared after their QA decline. My only two purchases have been naff to put it very politely. I don't think it's gonna be too long before conversations will be along the line of "Do you remember when LM made good tools?", much the same way that people do with Gerber.
:twak: :twak:

If LM really want to grasp newer buyers like me, who haven't been sucked into their previous successes, they need to concentrate less on the "shiny" and more on the "reliable"  :pok:

YMMV ... as always

they should of put the bit driver in the spot of the 2 other drivers.

It does seem like their going after the walmart crowd with these.

The Philips looks like on the flat headed versions. I think i'll stick with a charge over this.

Nope Rehashed from another company. It might look neat, but I want real drivers. And the file shape. Dont look to user friendly to me.

A bit harsh, but not entirely unfair.

I will say my LM Charge ALX is a workhorse.  As good as any multitool I've ever used and better than most.

I will agree that the newer Squirt doesn't seem as robust as the older version...

Very interesting.  I'm slightly unsure about the shape/size of the file, but I'll wait until we see some 'real life' pics and Grants report before I jump to conclusions. :tu:

I dont think that it is harsh one bit. Allen and I were jsut discussing it on FB. I pay good cash for my tools and use them. I want Quality, Dependability and innovation. I am Very loyal to LM and would love to get a mut. I have 5 AR platforms in my collection, and think it is a great tool, but at its MSRP. Now way. I would kill for a Civillian version that has the impliments but less beefed up. So since they dont have it, I will now order a Multitasker. No Problem.

I was  a fan of the Gerber of old. as for the new gerber, Never will they get a dime from me. Just like Bushmaster Firearms will never get a dime. Wont buy thier products ever again. I know my purchases wont make a diff to the company, but I have to stick to my guns.

Nope these new LM,s Dont excite me one bit. I guess I can look into the Vic tool in my drawer again.

I think it's worth keeping in mind that these are tools made to a price point and not aimed at us multitool aficionado's .  If you want a 3D Phillips then just buy another Leatherman, there are others to choose from. ;)  Lets wait until Grant's had a chance to take some real pics (not some computer graphic) and had his hands on them before we damn them utterly.  :)

I will add that I am extremely worried about the size/shape of that file though and am sad to hear that the Kick is due to be retired. :-\

I'm just not sure what to think... they kinda sorta look like Juice replacements maybe?  Dunno, but without the diamond file I'm not touching them.

It does look at least like all the secondary implements lock, which would be an upgrade, but flat philips driver  >:(?  Bad Leatherman!  Hopefully at the very minimum it'll have the same profile as their flattened bits.  Those are acceptable, but still not fantastic.

And the little hook thingy looks like a package opener.

I can't say if I like them or not; they are very Gerber-y.  In regards to a flat Phillips driver, it may just be a poor computer graphic; notice that there are three tools on the right side, and only two on the left; the Phillips may be a true three-dimensional driver that prevents other tools from being included on the left handle.  I'll wait until someone has a true review on them before I decide whether I want to spring for one or not.

For the file, though, I'm somewhat reminded of the Mike Horn Ranger file, but I can say now that I don't like the package opener or small serrated blade.

I've got an MT300 and a Charge TTi. I can't speak too much for the Charge because i've only got it recently (but it is fantastic quality) but the MT300 is a beast.

What really concerns me is if these tools replace the Kick and they lock then what choice does the UK buyer have for a medium size tool with non locking blades .

Well color me unimpressed.

I was really hoping for a civilian MUT  :-\

The phillips looks like it has defiantly been flattened, but it looks more like it's shaped like the flat bit version.

I'll wait until we get specs on size and all before I pass a final verdict on them though.
