The locking part of the liner/scale must extend almost up to the pivot so that the 90° part of the blade doesn't lock.
And the blade has to be modified so that in the locking position the part of the blade is short enough to fit behind the locking mechanism.

Yup I think I can redo it and get it to work now that I realize that I have to account for that.  :D

This seems to be what I need.   :tu:

I can still make the long cut with the 1/16th inch bit, and the short thinner cut I'll have to use a jeweler saw.

Not to sidetrack from this completely awesome train, but what is the feasibility of Reamer + Scissors + Saw + Blade + Combo Tool? Should all stack correctly and be only three layers thick right?

(Image removed from quote.)

Will you use a backspring or the liner to retain the blade inside the handles?? In the case you don't use a backspring you'll need a stop pin and a backspacer/stand off right??

Oh man, a locking urban Pioneer would be sick!  It would make a nice combo with my Galahad padlock :p

Once you get the secret sauce down, you should bust out 10 locking pioneers and 10 locking farmers for a bit if fast cash. Then when you get the scissors springs, 10 urban pioneers ans 10 urban farmers. That should.set you up for the heater you need. :p

Wow, that looks ridiculous. I'd love to grab one of those.  :gimme: :gimme: :gimme:

By the way, I finally uploaded a video I made about Bob's custom SAK I got a while back. I love this thing, and carry it most days. :D

It's a model you've all seen, but why not post it anyway?

Thanks for the great review!

I had planned more of a youtube presence to promote and sell my customs but the problem is I cant keep up to orders now, so I will wait until I can produce more before I start pumping out the youtube videos.

Cheers!  :salute:

Back on the lock blade topic.  Ana from Spain sent in some very well thought out notes on the lockblade issue and she had some good ideas.

Making the cuts wavy to eliminate stress points makes tons of sense.  Hard to do by hand but if I waterjet cut a bunch that would work just fine.

Her first idea, I think is similar to what Chaka was suggesting.  Im going to give that a try next as it sure look slike it should work.

Nice, I like the first or second, the wavy looks neat but I don't think it would have the lock effect like the others,, JR

I think this should work.  If it is to replace the existing liner in a pioneer, I needed to have the cutout at the blade tip end.  A normal pioneer blade is bent over so far that it would actually hit a full liner, but this way it should be enough to clear it.

Your option may be strong enough for the intended purpose. I just wanted to respectfully point out that the locking tab in your suggested solution would be under bending load with a relatively long lever arm. Alternatively, with a more conventional liner lock interface approach the loading would be mostly compressive. The likely result would be the ability to bear a greater closing torque before failing. In any event I look forward to seeing your prototype.

Yep I came to that realization too.  Next version will lock on 2 sides and that should work.  Compressive force is the meat of the strength for sure.

Well I was stalled on the scalpel blade holder for ages and finally got back to it and solved it.

The problem was the scalpel holder itself wasnt quite big enough, and sat down too far inside.  I figured I might as well just make a new pivot piece and then rivet the holder to that.

So.. I had a chunk of Ti scrap I milled some steps in.

And cut out a piece to use to form the pivot.  I also milled a matching step into the blade holder.

I drilled 2, 1/16 holes and used brass rivets to attach the two pieces.  Its very strong and solid.

I left some material on the top to be able to cut a nail nick.

And here is how it looks in the SAK.

Yes, might be a good idea. But leave enough room around the edge not to dull it while sliding it off and on.
