Well I did some kind of chemistry here by accident...

The center was polished brass and I wanted to anodize the rest blue... didnt quite work, but its interesting.

(Image removed from quote.)

This, for me, is still the most beautiful scale you made so far. Can you replicate this "accident"? If I ever get the funds, I'll be asking you to build me a SAK with this cross.

 :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Im sure i could do it again ya.  The anodize part was good, but I didnt care for the brass turning black.

Could the brass cross be taken out? To leave it hollow, like in the new scales you just did? Or is the brass too "stuck" in place to remove?

Just a crazy idea. Would it be possible to use Leatherman mini pliers from the Squirt or the Style PS as the basis, and add SAK 58mm tools and your scales?

What is this "Leatherman" model you talk about?! I know not of any such Victorinox...

Just a Frankenstein keychain multitool idea of mine. Maybe a silly idea. Take apart a Style PS,or a Gerber Dime , keep the pliers and add components from a Rambler or a Minichamp, if possible.

Oh yes, I am aware of this. I had the same idea! But I was thinking that the 91mm pliers are not the most suitable, because they do not fold, and the tool is bigger. Since there are no Victorinox mini folding pliers, other manufacturer's pliers might be used.

Not sure about the LM Style and Squirt pivots, but the Vic 58mm brass pivots are 1.6mm, and the Gerber Dime has 3mm screw pivots. The screw part of the Dime pivot is still bigger than 1.6mm, and there isn't enough meat on the little scissors and other tools from the 58mm to flog out to 3mm.  Perhaps a shorter 3mm pivot that just went through the pliers section and a longer screw could incorporate Vic 58mm tools into the Dime. That would make it worth carrying then.

I'd definitely carry that if it had the Electrician blade over the hawk bill.  Looks great

Ive been asked this question more often lately so I thought I should take the time to explain with a sweet MS Paint diagram.

Question... what can cause main blade rubbing on awl in a modded 93mm.
Answer...  If the blade pivot hole is not drilled at the correct angle it can change how the blade sits.  If you look at how angled a 93mm blade is, then picture laying it flat to drill it, it can then alter the pivot angle and then cause the blade tip to sit closer to the backside scale and rub.

Isn't it about time you commissioned a batch of 3mm hardened stainless pivots?  :pok:

Since I mostly work on 91mm size now its not worth it.  :D  2.5mm pivots would be too small I think to be strong enough.  Drilling out tools and springs for a mod is maybe 30 minutes of effort.  Blade layer and opener layer springs dont even need drilling.

1/8 inch carbide bits are cheaper too then metric around here so it's just easier to stick to imperial.  75% of the effort in the modding time on the 91s is working on the scales anyhow, so Im trying to figure out faster ways to finish the Ti scales.

Forgot the comparison pic vs standard super tinker.  People always ask about thickness of these conversions.  Noticeably thinner due to thinner scales and dropping the outer liners.   :tu:

I may be alone on this one, but I don't like the textured scales when the "groves" are large like that.

Have you thought about doing (or have done) old school ribbed scales?

I did some of those on 93mm Ti scales and they work fine.  Never did use them on a build though.
