Syph - Two questions about 93mm configurations: Could the hawkbill from a Harvester be put opposite the main blade or would something like a Pruner need to be used (where the hawkbill is already in that spot); are the same backsprings used for the 1.5 layer Phillips/2 opener layer as for seperate Phillips/bottle opener and hawkbill/can opener layers...trying to understand if the difference in width is just the liner.  Thanks man.

The pruner blade is the same shape in either spot, just slightly bent differently.  I have used them interchangeably with no issues.

The triple tool layer with the phillips uses 2 standard opener layer springs.  The can opener position can be occupied by the can opener, eblade or pruner blade.   :tu:

Syph007, is it possible to add a small blade next to the Philips on the triple layer, like the penknife or the pruner?

I did so many Ti 91mm mods, I used up the rest of my scales so I got another hunk of Ti cut into parts.

Lots of sizes here...

84mm front, backs, and backs with no cutout.

Don't suppose you have some 84mm scissor backsprings coming to go with those 84mm scales?

I actually made the decision to run those when Victorinox said they are going to be doing 93mm with scissors (which I've heard no updates on but I hope they still plan to), so yes its on the list to make but there are a few things ahead of that still that I already have materials for.  20% of the emails I get are from people wanting 84mm mods with scissors... so... I know there is a demand.  :D

What about demand for the triple tool layer on the 91mm?

It would be popular if it was possible.  Cant do it though.

The most popular mod I do those is the super tinker, which is kind of the same tools as that model, but on 91.  I know the backside phillips is a compromise though.

I will probably end up making some wenger style wrenches to pair with the top side phillips as lots of people want inline phillips but not the plastic mag glass.

Why not make a metal mag glass?

Hard to see through!

But yes I will cut some Ti ones for an upgrade option.  I have some Ti being cut in a few weeks that is the right thickness so I'll have some cut then.

Last one is a Ti 91mm.  Not everyone was a fan of the cross on the front scale so I made some plain ones too.

This is 4mm thinner than a standard compact.

I guess that in that configuration, with Ti scales, more stable liners, and serious screws, the backside Phillips is able to transfer and survive a lot more torque.

I finally got around to ordering some mokume since Ive got more Ti scale blanks coming in next week for 84, 91 and 93 mm mods with the cross cutout.  I wanted some more options other than brass and aluminum to fill the cross with.

I couldnt decide so I ordered both the classic and white mokume, examples here on the knife scales.  Should look interesting as the cross inlay I think.  :D

(Image removed from quote.)

Well anyone interested in mokume can skip this stuff!  Got it in yesterday expecting you know metal... its not.  Feels like plastic.  So I think if there is any metal content in there its LOW.  Not impressed at all.  Since its not metal it wont flow and I cant use it for inlays.

So I am annoyed and now making my own furnace with a propane torch and blocks and will weld forge some brass / nickel silver myself and see what type of mokume I can come up with.

That is a shame. Hope you didn't invest to much into it.

On an unrelated subject, lets say I wanted a Alox SAK modded but instead of the screws you use normally could you peen it? Pretty sure I have seen you dk this before.

I can do that ya, Im just not an expert at hand rivetting.  I can make work fine, but making the heads look perfect is pretty tough.

No need for perfect.

It is for the OC Pioneer I got from Aloha. It has weak snap and no brass liners. Plan to have it modded a little and brass liners added. Will be a beater patina SAK.

I havent done a Ti 93 in awhile, but this one was born today.  :D

The trick to making this look good on the back side was to grind the scales, liners and springs all together so they mated up well.

Watch out its sharp!  :D
