Those used to be sold as One Armed Bandits and have been around for a while.  The biggest problem is that knives that aren't developed to be one handed openers are often too stiff to be opened one handed.  Also, there isn't always the clearance necessary for it, and it's useless on multibladed knives.

Other than that, it's a neat product- I like the one I have.  :D

I also have to wonder how much damage is incurred as the set screw is tightened down on the blade.  Seems that it could only be used on a beater folder.

You know what- I honestly do not recall.  I'll have to dig it out and fiddle around a bit.

I was thinking about it and was wondering how well the set screw will hold up. I had a set screw on a lever action rifle I had that added a little extra to the hammer because if you put a scope on your rifle you could not cock the hammer. Any issues with the screw staying tight. Maybe some locktight would be in order. This is really making me want a Buck 110. I feel so ashamed I don't own one.  :(

I have used a thumb stud some, on a 110 I have. The stud I use did not mar the blade. The problem I had with a 110 stud was that the 110 would not fit in the Buck nylon or leather sheath, the stud catches on the lip of the sheath as you slide it. How ever it does make it easy to open the knife with one hand.

I need to get one of those for a folder I have.  Or more accurately I need to find a place that doesn't charge a fortune for shipping to Canada.

Those look dead simple to make too, I wonder if I can make one.

I can probably make it in aluminum easy enough, but stainless is going to be a bit difficult with my basic tools. For someone with CNC/lathe though it would be a walk in the park.

I have one on my old Schrade LB7. Works fine, though the edge is a little on the sharp side which I could remedy with sand paper or a file, but haven't.

Now .... way back, before one handed opening knives and pocket clips were around, I used a fast draw sheath with my LB7.

What I would add is this. I would not go out and buy a Buck 110 and then buy one of these add on thumb studs. There are better alternatives alraedy available. For instance a BuckLite or Buck Bantam come to mind. Very well built, affordable, and with one hand opening and pocket clip already in place.

Common sense ..... so rare, it's virtually a super power.
