One thing I have found that helps when the sads get to me is to remember all the good times we had together, rather than dwell on what happened at the end.

I took Milo my yorkie for a nice long walk last night. I hadn't realised how bad Millie's arthritis must have been as we walked a lot further than we have in a while.

He good run about and met up with lots of dogs we already knew, which prompted everyone to ask where Millie was.

He had such a good time, and also had a roll in fox poo, which I didn't realise until he was in the car and I had just set off for home. Thats when the smell hit

He wasn't to happy about the bath, blow dry, and comb or the 2 monthly flea drops on his neck once he was dry. But that's what he gets for being a scruff  :D

Kevin, sorry about Millie. Grant said it perfectly. I had to personally put my best friend down last fall. And every now and again I will think about him and sometimes I will shed a tear. A specially when I go out into the woods or working in my shop when I have a fire going. He used to love laying in front of the wood burner. I guess what I am trying to say is, it will be rough, but it will get easier. Looks like Millie was a very happy dog and had a great friend. My best wishes to you and your family.

Thank you

I should get her ashes back in the next day or two hopefully so I can plan to spread them at her 3 favourite walking spots

I think trapping part of your anatomy in a zipper qualifies as well

The phrase we used at home for that was "too pooped to pup."

Looks like you did your job properly if he's that far out!

He was definitely to pooped to pup. He slept up until I started cooking some minced beef, then suddenly he was awake and sat watching me.

I love this pic of my girl. I don't post pics of her much, but here she is. She was much younger back then, but it reminds me of the good times.

In this one she had hurt her foot and tore all the pads off and could not walk. We were 1 1/2 miles in the woods and had to carry her back up and down hills. It was back breaking, but I would do anything for her. She has saved me from more than a few sketchy situations in her time.  :tu:

Ouch, that must have made her squeal a bit.

She looks a solid dog, I don't envy you having to carry her.

Did she mend up all ok?

She's wearing a sock! she's healing nicely and is chomping at the bit to tear around the park again, but vet says wait a few more days. I have to start saving some more money for the next vets visit now.

Chad, what a beauty she is!  I miss that pitty smile!

Pete wasn't a pitbull, but close- he was a dogo argentino and they smile just like pits!

She's a beautiful girl for sure.  Pete was also running his pads off, and Daisy did it when she was younger.  I had to carry all 120 pounds of her home one day, fortunately it was only a few hundred yards.

Well she has never been a dog to whine when she is hurt. When we were hiking she started slowing down and falling back then just stopped completely and could not walk. I checked her feet and noticed what had happened. The pads on her feel had literally peeled off and were barely hanging on. Once I got her home I noticed more damage than I initially thought. I put her in the shower and poured hydrogen peroxide on her feet which put her in more pain than I have ever seen her and I felt so bad. Her paws literally curled up so tight I thought she was going to hurt herself further just from that. I felt even worse once I found out that is the worse thing I could have done and I just ruined any chance of them healing properly as the hydrogen peroxide kills the good cells making it next to impossible for the pads to reattach. I ended up having to rip off the pads that were hanging off, 3 or 4 if I remember correctly. She had damaged at least 3 pads on each foot. The pads on their paws never actually grow back so if they are fully removed the "skin" underneath turn into the new pad. It took a year or so (if I remember correctly) for her to develop a hardened skin that was somewhat comparable to the original pad, but it was never the same. Lesson learned at the expense of my poor pup.  :( She was probably 75 pounds at the time so a 1.5 mile walk in less than ideal terrain was terrible to say the least. I had a backpack on at the time. She was much to large to fit in the backpack so I tried to tighten the bottom straps and loosen the top straps to make a "pouch" like situation and had my buddy lower her in, but it did not work. It would of made getting her out of there much easier. Either way we were getting her out and back home one way or the other and we did.  :tu:
