I was going through the stuff in the boot of my car the other day and wondered what the guys and gals on here kept in their cars

Personally ive got a Really Useful Box with the following in:

Foot pump
Fix-a-Flat tyre foam
Haulage Strap off a truck for towing
30 M smaller diameter rope
Paracord
Fire extinguisher ABC
Small tool kit
Cable ties
Duct tape
Food

Hi vis waistcoat
Fenix ld20 and diffusers and extra batteries
Clothing
And when it snows a nice big shovel

I think thats it

So, whats in YOUR vehicle???

OK, I'll play...

My Xterra came with a pretty decent FAK, which I've improved with the addition of some common meds, a SAM splint, good pair of full-size EDC shears, Fauxton light, etc.

In the center console is a Wenger EvoGrip S18, breath mints, store discount cards, Surefire G2 with a Solarforce XP-G three-mode drop-in, runs on a 17650; Streamlight Argo HP modded with a SSC-P4 also running on a 17650; both can also take 2xCR123A, so I have a PowerPax 4xCR123A with backup batteries for both. Oh, and I'm trying to bigger where to mount the MagLite 4D with Malkoff drop-in; I have a PowerPax 4xD with backup D cells for it it'll probably go in the glove box.

In the back is usually a small duffel with truck stuff: jumper cables, metric socket wrench & set, self-sealing silicone tape, 12V air pump for the tires, Seal-A-Flat, three road flares, quart of oil, jug of Prestone, USGI entrenching tool, 50' heavy nylon rope, small dry fire extinguisher, three or four liter bottle of water, disposable rain poncho, AMK two-person survival blanket, work gloves, cheap 3xAAA headlamp, 40 gallon contractor bag, partial roll of paper towels... I'm sure there's more, but I haven't done a flu inventory in a while.

Oh, and if I'm going anywhere other than the office, I have my Suburban Assault Bag with my usual EDC stuff...

Oh my...

Starting at the change bucket and cup holders in front of the gear stick, pocket binocs, change, hair brush and ties, a few can tabs and cracker crumbs. *Blush* Under the arm rest, headlamp, electronic light stick, Vic Huntsman, Leatherman PST, batteries (AA, AAA and 123s), small fixed blade, small survival kit, work gloves, adjustable wrench, tire gauge, matches, lighter, tums, advil, tylenol, caffiene pills and mega dose b-complex. There is usually some water and Mt Dew and/or gatoraid and/or ice tea and a box of crackers in the passenger seat, and at least one paperback or magazine. In the seat or under it is usually a clipboard with a pad of graph paper and legal pad, and a couple of envelopes, along with some pens and pencils.

Between the driverseat and frame, a bottle of rubbing alcohal and a roll of paper towels. In the dirver's door pocket, mouth wash and two kinds of bug spray. The passenger door has an inverter. Hanging off the passenger seat, a towel and a first aid kit heavy on stopping bleeding. There is Spyderco Endura on the passenger sun visor. Delorme maps and others in the seat backs, along with last year's phone book.

Behind the passenger seat, under the garbage can (easier to manage) I've got a box of contractor bags, a box of ziplocks, and regular garbage bags (for the can). There is also a pair of 2L water bottles, spare sneakers, a couple pairs of spare socks. Window squeegee. Wool watchcap and gloves.

In the back...

Tool box with tools (duh), spare fuses, flares, jack, tire chocks. Milk crate w/ washer fluid, coolent, two quarts of oil, funnel, 4-way tire iron, pry bar, hatchet, spool of paracord. Tote with tarp, sportsmans blanket, wool blanket, another pair of socks, boonie hat, second set of watch cap and wool and shell gloves, sweatshirt, dust mask, duct tape, electricians tape, survey tape, some tent stakes, bungies, mason twine, small camp stove and a fuel canister, small pot, can of spam, noodles, small can of spam, MRE parts, and tea. An alice frame with shelf. Simple camp pad, bow saw, russian type e-tool, work boots. An over night bag with a change of clothes, including a polo shirt if we have visiting home office people in the shop and I forget, spare glasses, toothbrush, shampoo, towel, slippers, and a novel. There is a cubby on the side with two triangles and a blaze orange vest. Fire extinguisher. Poncho. Lightweight jacket. Most of the time, there is a partially consumed bulk pack of 22 and some neon 3x5 index cards.

Yes, I'm pretty much set to spend the night on the side of the road. There is also a small stash of cash hidden in the vehicle.

And yes, I know I will die in the event of a roll over, hit by something.

Full roll of duck tape
Leatherman ST300 or Wave (depending on the car, all the other stuff is the same)
ResQme attachet to the gear shift
Chewing gum
Lighter
Pen
Hand sanitiser
Umbrella
Hi visibility jacket (again required by law)
Traffic warning triangle
Jumper cables
A collapsible shovel
Blanket
1L of water
Fenix E01 (I always have a stronger flashlight on me so this one is just in case)

I have in the back of my Suburban a 25 gallon Rubbermaid bin which contains:

- Sears Portable Power battery jumper.  Aside from jumping my myself or others, it provides a backup power source for the cell phone and other electronic devices.  Recharged monthly.  Has air compressor.
- a DC to AC power inverter, which lets me run AC devices off of the vehicle cigarette lighter or Sears battery jumper
- military ammo box with tools, fixed blade, WD-40, Gorilla tape (love that stuff!)
- large coffee can with lid, containing a roll of toilet paper.   When you have a sick kid in the back seat, you be glad to have a container.  Could also transport gas or water in pinch.
- heavy duty universal lug wrench; those little ones that come with the spare tire provide no leverage
- seasonal jackets/hats for boys, ages 10 and 14
- trailer hitch (currently installed in receiver)
- comprehensive first aid kit with CPR mask
- small PSK, basically an Adventure Medical Kit's Pocket Survival Pack which I have augmented
- spare umbrella
- Maxpedition Malaga, black.  Contains misc items, and can be emptied and used as required.
- paper towels
- tow strap
- anti-bacterial wipes

I have been carrying bottled water, stored in a gallon ziplock in case it leaks.

Maybe to add:
- small folding shovel; already have it
- A "Come Along"?  Eh, probably not.
- food/snacks

In addition to the contents of the Rubbermaid bin, my Man Sack also rides in the vehicle and is available to take with me when I exit.   It is not so much an EDC bag, but more of a "just in case" bag containing convenience items for the most part.   It consists of a black Maxpedition MPB, which I have chosen because it has a lot of volume, and because it looks like a briefcase and flies below the radar.  No "Sh*t Magnet" velcro patches for me, thanks.  I want law enforcement and security guards to ignore me.   It contains:

- Bible (NIV Study)
- small paperback (Resurrection, by Hank Hanegraaff)
- small "Pocket Ref" reference book; can keep me busy for a long time
- legal pad and file folder
- pens, pencils, Sharpies
- large Moleskine notebook
- Coffee Mate
- Streamlight Stinger LED in Ripoff's holster
- Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit;l I think it saves a couple ounces over the Leatherman Wave, but maybe not.
- Countycomm medium breacher bar (like I am ever going use that)
- quart ziplock with misc contents: duct tape, Blackberry charger, earplugs, suncreen, lighter, monocular, spare keys to MIL's car, etc.
- EMT shears
- small first aid kit (scrapes and boo boos only)
- nail clippers, dental floss, chapstick, tums, diphenhydramine
- advil, anti-diarrhea, cough drops, hand sanitizer
- hand lotion
- Tide stain pen
- Countycomm am/fm/shortwave radio (nice)
- spare batteries
- 1 spare loaded mag for Kel-tec PF9 (pistol is always in my pocket)
- pepper spray

If I know I am headed to the hospital (my mother in law is bipolar) or some other place where I will be bored out of my skull, I will grab the Kindle and throw it in the Man Sack.

Maxpedition Man Sack with Tupperware container.

Guys, I was reading the post and wondering how many of your EDC in the wehicle are you legally obliged to have.
For example in my country you must have a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, high visibility jacket and light reflective triangle.
Otherwise I have a hatchet,
small shovel,
foldable wood saw
flashlight
magnesium lighter, matches, dry alchohol
a broken fan heater (I don't know why)
a bottle of engine oil
towing rope
tool kit
gloves
spare jacket
emergensy rain poncho
jumper cables
and a chess board :)
I guess I'm forgetting something but you get the picture  :D

I was actually just thinking about asking what I should have in my car... I've only owned it a month, and put 1000km on it already!

I already have reflective vests as they are required by law here as well... one under my drivers seat (so I can get at it without leaving the car when it's needed) and another in the back with the spare tire.

Also have a small sak like knife (with Halifax fire & rescue on it) in the glove box I got from Grant.

I was thinking I should have some sort of multitool in the trunk permanently... just in case.

I carry my MTO leatherman flashlight on my house keychain already, so that's always with me as well.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I don't even remember that Halifax Fire and Rescue knife.....   :ahhh

Get yourself a good multitool to live in the trunk or glove box and a bigger/more powerful flashlight.  I'd suggest something like a full sized SwissTool or Leatherman ST300.  For a flashlight, get something that runs on AA's or AAA's as they can be replaced easily enough.

You should also get yourself a bottle of that stuff you squeeze into the tire to instantly fix punctures and a decent size compressor- it should all fit in the trunk with your spare.  You'd probably also benefit from a bunch of different sized cable ties and a can of WD40.  With the tool, light, cable ties, WD40, tire sealant and compressor you should be set for about 90% of what can go wrong on the road.

Another good choice, although you don't ever want to use duct tape on any part of your exhaust since it's flammable.  Guess how I know that.  :P

Tire plugs and tools are probably better choice than the fix a flat can.

All vehicle kits should include T.P. and babywipes . Mechanics gloves are also a good idea , save a lot of hurt to the hands . A hammer of some kind is also an asset . As are black iron wire , a few worm gear clamps - assorted sizes , and a pair of linesmans pliers .

Now you see why most MTO members have horrible fuel economy and very little cargo room no matter what kind of vehicle they have!   :ahhh

That's just about what lives between the front seats in my car:
an Uncle Mike's sheath with an original SuperTool and Mini MagLite (double AA, upgraded with Nite Ize LED's) and two extra AA's, plus a Tool Adapter and a headband that allows the use of the MagLite as a headlight.

In the trunk there's - among other things - some cheap kit that can be used both when hiking or in an emergency: small axe, saw and knife.
Maybe not the best quality, but better than nothing

I think it comes with a couple of bags but I'll probably mix it up with some Maxpedition and other gear to get what I want out of it.

Most cars should carry a small fire extinguisher also: although I never needed one myself, I did pass by a few burned cars in the past!
