Red Bear Jaws 155L
on: July 15, 2012, 05:53:32 AM
Today i figured i'd finally check out Traders Village, a flea market on the other side of Houston. Woke the wife up, hopped in the mini and drove over. Kinda dead as it was getting hot and super muggy out. Saw a few knife sellers but they had typical junky crap ..then i saw one vendor with a huge Vic display  :drool:

This guy had cases upon cases of the most random assortment you could imagine. No organization at all. Al Mar knife, china crap, Beechwood opinel, china crap, BSA Camilius, cheap throwing stars, Fallkniven, knock off max-ped.  Had to deep scan all the cases to make sure i didn't miss anything good.

Saw this one in the bottom case next to some Chen multis.. :o

Red paint has a nice grippy feel to it. This is the second Bear product i have owned.  Has some heft to it too. I saw on the box " A division of Swiss Army Brands" . Looks like Vic owned them at one time but not currently.

The Vic display had a few swiss champs in it, an XAVT ( i think) and a swisstool. Too much $$ for me .

Interesting tool  :tu:

I believe that Vic bought Bear in order to use the patent for outside opening tools on the Swisstool, then later sold the company.

WOW mate that is a SUPER find  8) 8) 8).
I have not seen a big Bearjaws with that finish  8) 8).
I was given a Mini Bear Jaws 153 with a identical to your 155's red finish , I think they are pretty rare  :think: :think:. I think your big red Bear is VERY rare mate :think: :think:  8) 8)

From Bob's Wiki info, the Mini Bears came in a couple different colours;

i thought it might be a rare one as i hardly ever see the regular stainless anymore. With the original box, sheath and paperwork i gandered it was a safe acquisition.

Great find there Jason! :tu: I get the feeling there were not many of those colored Bears made, given how infrequently they come up for sale. My bet is they made one run of them about ten years ago, and that was it. Makes one like yours that is still new in the box all that much more special. Congrats! :cheers:

i might have to go back there next weekend and browse some more.

There was an odd multitool at the bottom - after using our fine multitool resources on this site i found out it was a Paul Chen multitasker.

not sure how rare it is.  :think:

I don't think they're rare but they are interesting. I'm ordering one soon from a Uk supplier (£10) for modding purposes :)
