No design / patent drawings or anything of the like to give us some sort of hint what this will look like?  :ahhh

A ring cutter, from what I gathered, is a specialized cutting/nippers for cutting rings off fingers. Say it gets caught in a car door and needed to be taken off, or if the finger has swollen from a break or injury. This is why I am frightened to even consider a Titanium wedding ring because they are notoriously hard to cut.

It's a little tough to discern the mechanism but here's an example of a dedicated emergency ring cutter.

(Image removed from quote.)

EDIT: Just looked at the image again, but maybe the bottom 'finger' of the tool slips under the ring while the mini pizza cutter deal is a diamond wheel saw that is turned by hand so to only cut the ring?
That might take a while to cut through a metal ring by hand. If you snip the wings off that wingnut, you could chuck it into a Dremel or drill and cut through a ring in no time!

I thought that was for circumcissions??

Update!!

Found some images!

I like them a lot, doesn't look like its ripe for modding, but then again I say that about a lot of tool I mod :)

I am def getting a few pairs of these.

The pocket clip alone is awesome.

Given how EMTs and medics actually just throw these away or loose them easily, I hope these guys will be cheap.

I'd go that for a primo shear . I use trauma shears ( cheap variety ) around the shop , and workbench .

From where?

I doubt at that price point, EMTs would be into it.

Hmm, I dunno, bit of a disappointment.

I was hoping leatherman would be able to make something special. They haven't. Apart from it being a good quality alternative to normal such shears, I do not see why these are so special, and so I find the price laughable.

And you know what? more so than for pliers, for shears I would definitely want compound leverage. Maybe its the wrong company having a go at this.

Cmon SOG, make a good shears based MT!

Hmm, not full sized, with relatively uncomfortable handles due to all inside opening tools?

Wouldn't surprise me if somehow Leatherman makes a SOG Clone in the near future. They already copied Gerber, so is very probable that SOG will be the next victim...   Resistance is Futile

I like that Belt Cutter / Oxygen Wrench Combo Tool  :tu:

What I don't see is the Ring Cutter

Thnx for the pics ! :salute:

I think it might be at the "heel" of the shears - a separate shear configuration pointing the other way.

See it? Just to the right of the pivot

Initially I thought that was very clever, but then I thought I might not want another set of shears pointing towards me while I was cutting  :ahhh :ahhh OK, I cant see my fingers getting caught in it, but I can still see them causing problems .... or even the shear causing problems when cutting rings

While it's certainly gadget-tastic, it seems to be fixing a problem that doesn't exist. First responders whether fire, rescue or medical, tend to have vehicles full of far better long proven dedicated tools, which would all do the job better than a clunky over priced pair of folding shears

I don't get it  :-\

I still want one . I own a few pretty expensive scissors , so this won't be too much of a shock .
Now that I see the scale down by the blade ,it's even easier to justify . I have Starret and Mitatoyo scales and squares , costinf far more !

Sorry to say but this leaves me totally cold. :-\  Not sure why you need a lock on a strap cutter for one thing, other than to make it slower to fold away? ???  Not one for my Christmas list.

Does it look neat? You betcha, I might even buy one if I find one on a good price. But as a user? No, my shears are good enough to be usable, cheap enough to replace, just like any other tool I'm likely to be wearing nitriles when I'm using them.

This I really cant wait for. I'll buy it to try it. May 2013 is a good wait for them to hit market. A great Turnout jacket tool i beleive. Yes the dedicated tools are prob better, but i could see them in use in a jam. The only thing i dont get is that they fold down.WTF. LM could have kept that simple.
