You might see a chopping board, but I see many many pairs of hardwood scales.

  • I'm an Adult?!?! When did that happen?
Bought a block of Jarrah at the markets on the weekend, 300x250x45mm (12x10x1&3/4 inches) for $8.00
Nice grain in it. I'm sure there are some quite burled sections in there somewhere, will find out when I slice it up.
Cut a piece off one edge to do a quick pair of scales to try on a tinker I had laying around.

Very nice grain.
As a long time pipe smoker I wonder how a briar scale with bird's eye cut would look like. I imagine it would be a killer.

I really have to get serious about making some wooden scales.  After being a hobbyist woodworker for over 30 years and being a miser with my wood supply, I have quite a pile of small scraps that could be used.  Some of them are exotics.

Quit making mead  :pok: :pok: & get that exotic wood sorted  :pok: :pok: :D :D :D.

There was a TV show I was watching last week & an old craftsman was giving his young friend a bit of very old exotic wood & the young fella said 'It's beautiful' the old guy said 'No it's just a piece of wood , till you make something out of it'   :pok: :pok: :D

A compromise   :D. 50% of creative time on mead & the other 50% on dressing up SAKs   :D :D

I've tried to use hardwood flooring for knife handle before and that was one of the wood I wanted to get, but my local store only sells them by box so I ended up passing on the idea.
