Dorks at work....
on: December 30, 2012, 12:22:37 AM
Hard hats with Headlamps.... my boss (whose hat is on the right) told me I got bonus points if my hat was dorkier than his. Since my headlamp and camera are lower key than his I had to whip out my trusty Vic Compact and cut a Star Trek chevron out of duct tape and apply it.

When I showed him the hat he immediately scoffed until I turned it around, revealing the chevron and he fell silent before admitting that I won!

Quite cool, and not dorky IMO.  But Mrs. Powernoodle and I watched the first episode of Star Trek Voyager last night, so maybe we are the ones who are dorky and don't know it.

Sadly I've seen every episode of TNG and Voyager, and am starting to watch DS9.  I never really got into DS9 while it was on, but now I figured since I've seen all of TNG and Voyager that I might as well watch it.

Oh, and I also got a stuffed Yoda and the entire Star Wars collection for Christmas

Skip DS9 and watch the lower budget but far superior Babylon 5.

Yes, I'm still a nerd.

I've seen the entire original series, TNG, Voyager, loathed DS9, watched about half of Enterprise. Saw all the movies in the theater, and like the current movie (soon to be movieS).

Grant I'd say you bosses hat is still the dorkier looking, but you are definitely trying. :D

I never watched DS9 much before either until a few months ago. It's good, in some ways better than Next Gen. But B5 still walks all over it.

Yeah, I know. :-[  In my defence I do actually think it got better as it went on, good ongoing stories and a big war.  Very likely took it's cues from B5 in that regard though. :D

They all needed a bad guy.  Enterprise took off after the Xindi, B5 with the Shadows, TNG with the Borg, Voyager with Species 8279347863294073.2 and DS9 became watchable during the Dominion War.

I have to wonder if that was what happened to Firefly?  Maybe if they'd brought the guys with the rubber gloves in sooner they could have drawn more interest?  I have to say, I really loved the episodes of B5 with Bester as the head Psi Cop.  I thought Walter Koenig was much better as Al Bester than Pavel Chekov.  You wanted to hate Bester, and he made it mostly easy for you, but he was always so jovial while you hated him which made you kind of think that in a different time, under different circumstances, you might just hate him a little less.  It was a brilliant part, played perfectly and I can't see anyone else having pulled it off.

I totally agree with Def, Bester was awesome. To me Koenig IS Bester, not Chekov.

Gareth, you aren't alone- DS9 is my favorite Trek, largely becuase they couldn't warp out and just say "Prime Directive says Not. My. Problem." First two sessions might have been a little rough, but it was much more serial than other series.

Admittedly, Enterprise was supposed to be very serial as well, but... Temporal Cold War. In the pilot. First rule of time travel is, unless you are a time lord, DON'T. Second rule is, see the first rule.
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

oh, God...  when Whovians and Trekkies collide.

You get Star Trek the Next Generation/Dr. Who: Assimilation

There are those things sf fans always want but should never be allowed to get.

There's a repeated joke in our game group (which I think came from a web comic, possibly Order of the Stick), about a gnome in love with a human barbarian woman. The punchline is something like 'I have ' Enlarge Any Object' and ranks in Climb'.

The Doomsday ship always reminded me of a cone of crumpled tin foil. Struck me like some of the old OLD Dr. Who effects.

' What is the threat this week?'
'Broccoli... giant space broccoli.'

edit: also my favorite TOS ep was always 'Balance of Terror', the introduction of the Romulans.
