The Demo Knife Owners Club
on: January 16, 2013, 08:40:57 PM
I thought this would be a good place for people to show off their " demo" knives and to explore the different manufacturers and dates. A link i'll post below says Stevens, Kingston, Ulster, Imperial, Western, Case, Queen and Camillus made versions of this knife. I've only seen Camillus myself.

So to start off here are my two.. US branded Camillus dated 1969 and a 1994 Camillus USMC label.

The 1969 is a real nail breaker. The 1994 opens fairly easily. Both are about the same weight and build quality. The 1969 bottle opener has a small bolster to help in opening. Not much help as it too is hard to open.

Now to find ones labeled USAF and USN.

oh and here is that link for more info...it's been posted here on MTO before.

I'm in.  :tu:  Here are my two, an Imperial dated 1961 and a Camillus from 1992.

There are some differences between the two.  The most obvious is that the 1961 has the stud for the bottle opener while the 1992 doesn't.  On my '61 it's broken off though.  :(  The blades have a different shape to them, the Imperial's on the left:

The taper from the tip to the tang on the Camillus is much more obvious than on the Imperial.  Note the different nail nick locations as well.

The can opener is larger on the '61, again on the left.

And finally the awls have a totally different shape.  On the left is the Imperial with no nail nick and a dished out, rounded surface.  The Camillus is much more angular with a nail nick, and a pronounced chisel point.

Overall they're both solidly built knives that open and close smoothly.  Neither is a nail breaker.  I'm going to have to find me some more of these I think.....  :tu:

ever notice the price on demo knives bounce all over the place? Dates within a war period are automatically suggested to be battlefield carried.

bout 30 bucks is my limit on these. Anything over had better be rare or proven.

Looks like yours have the same differences mine do.  Interesting considering that they're from the same manufacturer and only 5 years apart, not 31 like mine.  I wonder when the specs for these might have changed?   Well, between 77 and 82, obviously.......

Marbles and Schrade are pimping their versions of the military demo knives. The schrade is an alright version ( I have it ) . It's not as high on the quality as a camilius or actual issued demo knive. Haven't messed with a marbles as of yet to compare to a real deal.

For $7 I might just have to grab one of the Marble's and give it a shot.  Ontario makes these as well, I saw them on Amazon for $38.50, which is actually more than I've seen the issue ones for.

I have an odd-ball Demo Knife(less); it's only the opener layer, for some reason.

A 70 Camillus of USN was my first knife. I used it until the spring broke and then I put it somehere in my parent's house, where even I can't find it.

Man, the price on demo knives are a bit far fetched. They are kinda high on ebay right now if you look under demo knife, if you search under military knife or another tern they are a bit cheaper. I usually come across them at flea markets or trades days for 20ish bucks.
