you too eh?

I thought the interceptors were interesting, I don't remember seeing them in the movies, or at least not on Hoth.

It's proper chaos... but I wonder if you can play any other mode besides MMO.

As far as I can remember the TIE Interceptor was introduced before the Battle of Endor,to try regain parity with the Rebel T65. After the Battle of Hoth you see TIE Bombers trying to flush out the Falcon in the meteor field.

Mmm

So apart from making it look more "sporty" the cuttouts at the front of the wings are for what? To increase the vison/situational awareness in a dog flight?

On a less grounded note, will someone p,ease explain to me how the New Republic are still using X-Wings,even after more advanced types were introduced before Endor, and why the bad guys are still plugging on with the TIE,which, frankly was outclassed long before Endor?

I think it's because after the X-Wing, and the Y-Wing the only one left to try is the Z-Wing, and I can't see that being an improvement. It would be aerodynamically unstable.

For the baddies, they were 'TIE'd in to a 10 year contract for TIE fighters that is air 'TIE't. They have to honour the contract.

I will be getting my coat shortly.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/TIE/IN_interceptor
Quote
Like most TIE models, the TIE Interceptor shared nearly identical cockpits, drive pods, and wing brace designs with the TIE Fighter. The solar collector panels were lengthened and angled, and the forward center section was removed. This new solar array design gave the Interceptor its unmistakable dagger-like appearance, while providing the pilot with increased visibility and shrinking its profile to make targeting more frustrating for enemy gunners.[9]

that page also references the appearances throughout... seems the existed, were heavily armed, and fast

F4 Phantom syndrome.

When you get something that works you stIck with it, even when there are more advanced options available. Especially with aircraft as pilots tend to be very superstitious, and even more since X Wings were instrumental in destroying both Death Stars and defeating the Empire.

I'll get my coat too.....

Politics man! Jeeze....
 Its like always. The same companies seem to get the Imperial contracts every time. Even if they have an inferior product. It comes down to the lowest bid and who can deliver sufficient units within a given time frame.

Imagine the F-15, and how long that plane was in use. From '76 to now. In the extended universe stuff, the X-Wing was supposedly a very new design during ep 4. So, a few upgrades here and there, and the ship could be serviceable for decades. That doesn't bug me much.

The TIE thing...

Okay, I hate to break the fourth wall, but we ALL know that the X-Wings and TIEs were kept because they are one of the visual icons of the series. And the extraordinary difference in silhouette makes it super easy to tell the sides apart in a dogfight scene.
