This may be a stupid question but
on: February 09, 2013, 09:18:18 AM
Gerber evo v gerber suspension

What's the difference apart from a price difference?? Currently £15 on amazon

The only thing I can see is the design on the handles..

Is there different metals to justify the difference ??

Sorry I've been curious for a few days

Thanks all

There is no difference other than the look of the handles.  Personally I am not a huge fan of them but if you have a good deal going and you fancy it, go for it. :tu:

There are a number of identical models from Gerber that come with different handles- the Suspension, Evo, Ripstop and Resolve are the four that come to mind easily, although I am certain there are a few more.  The Suspension was the first one, and the rest were done in response to demand from big box stores to have an exclusive model.  Rather than design new tools, costs were kept down by building the same tools but with different looking handles.  Otherwise they are all identical.

As for the stupid question bit, well, if you are wondering about it, then chances are others are too, which means that maybe it wasn't quite as stupid as you thought in the first place.  If this forum ever gets to the point where we crap on people for asking questions then I will personally fly to Holland (where the server lives) and burn it down.

Also some slightly modified ones come branded as Bear Gryllis too, I hear.

I thought there was just one BG version?  That was the orange and grey BG Suspension?

Even so, it was quickly replaced by the BG Strata.

I do not know as I have no BG products and only a few Gerber products.

I was just adding to what you said regarding Gerber selling similar products with different branding.

The original BG full sized MT was indeed just a standard Suspension in a different jacket.  However the original mini-MT was a modified Clutch with a serrated blade replacing the nail file.

Since we are getting into the details.... :D

The BG Suspension was never really planned to be a BG Suspension.  When Gerber won the right to produce the BG line they needed a multitool to include, and the Suspension was the easiest to customize so they went with it until they could put the time into creating something more fitting, which eventually became the BG Strata.

So it was more a stopgap measure to buy Gerber some time than it was ever expected to be a full member of the BG lineup.

So BG Strata ?? is that referred to as BG Ultimate??
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

It could be, I'm not sure.  To be honest I haven't been following it that closely.

I think the BG Suspension was the "Ultimate Survival Multitool", whereas the Strata was part of the "Ultimate Survival Pack". I don't believe the BG Strata has been marketed seperately (i.e. without the torch, firesteel and fancy sheath)
