My first Mora
on: August 01, 2013, 12:30:24 PM
Always wanted one,but I don't like buying internationally as our custom taxes are ridiculous,so yesterday I finally found a local supplier and got one to see why everybody is raving about it and I must say its really a very nice and solid knife.

I got the HighQ Robust with a carbon blade

now I want the orange one and the MG one and then I'll get the 511 and hopefully he can get me the wood handled one to.
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Ive got quite a few moras and they are my utility knives around the shop.  The only thing I dont love about them, is the grind, but I fixed that on a few.  I prefer full flat grind, if not that, then just about anything other than scandi.  People say scandi is easier to sharpen, but Ive never found that the case personally.

Cost per value though they are great and thats why I keep buying them. :D

My 13 year old son's Mora knife(recent ebay purchase).  He fell in love with one I bought at the flea market for 10 bucks.  He saved money by mowing lawns and paid 2 thirds while me and the Mrs paid the other third.

The edge these can get with an askansas stone is razor sharp.

I like those big fat ones with rubber handles too.  Might get the green one someday

They are good for carving but that's about it, anything else is a pain in the butt because the grind is so thick, and certainly takes a lot longer to sharpen.

But for the price you get a well made 1095/440a (equiv) blade, I probably have a lifetime supply of them already.

I have to agree. Everyone should own a Mora. I couldn't decide which to get first when I finally made a decision to buy a Mora Knife so I just went to Amazon.com, I closed my eyes clicked on submit and looked forward to weeks of starvation and then here they are!

Hope your Mora collection grows!

Cheers,
Gabriel

Mora knifes are more than worth the money! I now have a Robust for outdoor work, and a 510 for finer works. Two carving knifes have found their way to me, too.

Bought a Mora yesterday, too. I think it's a Companion MG in Carbon steel. Very happy with it, my first fixed blade :D Seems very sturdy, nice grippy handle, and comes -really- sharp, easily shaved the hairs on my arm  :D

I know, I know. I'm not that much of an outdoor-enthusiast, and a fixed blade is not that useful in an urban environment, but for the €14 it cost, i couldn't leave it in the store..

I've been planning to get a Mora 2000 for a while, even tho for a finn it's a bit of a sacrilege... :D

It seems a great all-round knife to be honest
