My survival knowledge is merely theoritical, but isn't the Kukri (combined with the small sidekick knife) the perfect survival knife?

Also, as a SAK lover, I like that one: Ganjawala Panawala 8

It is 20.5 cm at 1000 gms, full tang, decorative (the seath is quite folcloric) and with a bunch of blades to play with.

What's your opinion?

Ganjawala dragon is longer and carved.

Yes, I'm looking at the blades site but I found bigger pics from Google with the house word on them. There are many similar sites on the net.
Now I must persuade my wife to hang it on our living room's wall. That's the hardest part. The most gallant Ghurka would find my wife the most difficult opponent.

What's the notch in the blade, just above the hilt, for anyhow?  Is that's something put there in case one actually chips the blade in the general vicinity?

Only logical thing I could see them being used for is in knife fighting that could lock the opponent's blade in the notch and possible allow one to disarm their opponent. Or... was used as a tie down area when lashing onto a mounted animal. I don't agree with the blood running down the blade thing, that makes zero sense.

What do you gents think about this IMA site claiming of having 100+ year old Kukri? Real deal, or get one from another online site?

Am intrigued of the Kukri idea, though don't know much about this style of knife.

This lil rascal Biltong Special (Conceal Kukri) looks very interesting. :pok: Would tickle the wallet if they had one that wasn't quite so shiny.

Am considering on purchasing it though...  :D

It sure is pretty with the Damascene blade... It gets no use though as it is soft as butter. Probably, taking it apart and tempering the blade would do the trick, it's just not in my range of skills.

Most common answer for the notch (kaudi) or cho is too stop blood coming down the handle  :tu:

I'm very much in two minds about whether to incorporate these, I'm making smaller Kukris and my gut feel is cutting edge is more important.......but I do want to give a nod to tradition as well.....

Not really a Kurkri user here, but if I'd make one I would actually change the grip to something like the image below. This should improve grip safety.
Not saying to do it in black or plastic, this is more about the shape, having a more prominent cross-guard and especially having a pommel that prevents that the kurkri slips out of the hand while using.

Khukuri House Handicraft Industry, Nepal got back to me on the McCurdy's Special knife I had ordered.

Had actually looked at their site for over 2 hours before seeing this knife. Wanted to order a Kukri --- but which one? What would of been the more authentic style, design, length, ect.? I know ntohing of these knives other than casual perusement online and on this forum posting.

Thought I could use one while camping to cut & chop wood, clearing brush maybe, build a shelter, fight off some beast if my I didn't have my pistol on me, and to hand on the wall for display when not in use. heck yeah that would be cool to have hanging on the belt or pack, but those look like a good 2 pounds of weight - and shipping charges for such.

So, I did not order a Kukri. What is recommended?? And I don't care for shiny; I care for durability, longevity, usability - although having that in an attractive blade would be okay too.  :D

To me it seemed the notch would be used in knife fighting so as to lock the other attacker's blade so you could wrench of from their hand, or as a simple force-blocking maneuver in combat. The knife's shape would give the attacker's blade a straight shot at the defender's arm - but if not for the notch it could keep going - and doesn't look like all kukri have a crossguard either.

Could of been one actually got chipped in use or from fighting and the beholder rounded it out so it would not look too obvious, and as such others likes the idea and a fad was borne? Something learned here at MTO, someone does something like that and BAM, a fad is born.  >:D
