I like the New York and not New York. I live near Rochester NY but when I lived in Tennessee every time I said I'm from New York the person I was talking to immediately assumed New York City.

I love New York. It's so European. Philadelphia even more. Both so different from the rest US I visited (10-12 states).
If US was in Europe it would be divided in 50 countries, it would have fought a hundred wars inland and Germans would govern.

When I went to school in your neck of the woods people thought I was from the City.  When I'm in other parts of the country and someone asks if I'm from NYC, I want to  :twak: them!  Do I sound like I'm from Noo Yawk?  Hell no!  In fact, I don't have an accent at all!  Allayouse guys tawk funny, aight?  :)

I have never been to New York City...but spent a lot of childhood summertime around the Adirondacks, mostly around Lake George and Lake Placid back in the 70s, when there were lots of small family amusement parks such as Gaslight Village, Storytown, Frontier Town, Santa's Workshop, and House of 1000 animals.
A little Leatherman information.

I just drove by Santa's Workshop when going to climb mountains! That was the only vacation my grandfather ever took as a kid.

Map looks good to me.  I grew up in North Carolina, and now I live in Wisconsin.

The one thing I do hate is how my boss a few years ago said, AND I QUOTE

"you cannot apply for an EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) position, you are from the south"

What I should have said was

well, you cannot work for for US Military, you are from German lineage.   makes just as much sense
If I can help, let me know

I agree with the comment about new york being "so european".  It's hardly a representation of the broad majority of the US.  We aren't all that way, there are quite a few down to earth folks here in the US.  Not where I'm currently at in Colorado mind you, but in Texas and Montana I've known some really awesome people who actually understand that England and Europe are not the same thing.  New York city might as well be a whole different country, the way they act there.

Hey! This whole thread needs to be shut down. After all these years I never expected to see something so insulting here on MTO. The moderators should be ashamed of letting something like this slide.

I live in Illinois and it has a LOT more going on than just Chicago: it has...um...and...uhhhh, well WHATEVER! I've also lived in Wisconsin and people who think it only has cheese have obviously never been there! it's filled with....stuff, and...things.....and....oh smurf it, the map accurate, carry on.

As a Swiss I noticed that Americans never can keep Switzerland and Sweden apart.
True story, I have now set up Dell computers and for the third time in something more than a year. They always come preset with:
Language: German (Switzerland)
Units and Currency: Switzerland
Keyboard: Sweden  :ahhh

Don't worry nobody here can name more than a handful of US-States, and most think that Ill-i-noise is a punk-rock band.
