Gerber LST.
on: August 31, 2013, 04:41:39 PM
In the late 1990's I bought a Gerber LST as a cheap lightweight beater knife. I never expected it to be so rugged and dependable that it would become my edc knife for the next 20 years. That's how long it took for me to wear it out. Now I find out that Gerber is discontinuing the model. I'm glad I laid up a few spares in the drawer.

Any other fan's of the LST here? I know it has no hype around it, gets very little fan fair, but they were a great knife to carry when you didn't want to be reminded of the knife every time you moved. The LST totally disappeared in a pocket, but cut anything I needed to for 20 years. I have more fancy knives, more expense knives, but I don't now if I have any other knife that ounce per ounce is as effective a cutter. Except an Opinel, but that gets too sticky to open and close if it gets wet.

LST fan's?
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

I used one for years before we all had to go slippies to avoid any bother with the old bill.

Great low cost knives :)

I found the very small one (gerber 300 - about 2 3/4 in. long closed) at the local flea market last weekend.  It had a bit of dirt on the scales which cleaned off to show that it was essentially unused.  $3 so not a big risk.  Appears to take a nice edge and is so small you don't know it's in your pocket.  I quite like it.

It certainly is a nice little knife.  I haven't got one myself but I see them in the hands of non knife people often- people that scoff at carrying knives seem to discount this one as an actual knife.

I have been considering to buy one for some time.
After I read this thread I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one.  :D
