Magnets!!!!!!!!
on: September 09, 2013, 12:50:55 AM
Rare Earth Magnets are very strong, and very expensive at any store I have found them at.  Walmart had 3 tiny ones for $4.

but at the Flea Market, I found what I call a steal on some

the magnets on the top left are about 1/4" diameter by 1/4" long   I got 26 of those.
bottom left are 1/4" Diameter by 3/16" long.  I got 62 of those.
to the right one space are 1/4" Diameter by 1/10".  I got 96 of those.
upper right bars that are 1.25" x 1/4" x 1/8".  I got 6 of those.
very bottom is 3/5" diameter by 1/8".  I got 60 of those

so I got 250 rare earth magnets for $28.  where I live, that is amazing

here is an example of the strength

if anyone could use some of these, let me know.  I do not mind sharing the great price for some of these, but my goal is not to get rid of them all.  also, depending on where you live shipping could be an issue that makes the cost no longer good.
If I can help, let me know

Those are awesome.  Lee Valley sells sets like that- in fact, here's the link:

The price isn't too bad on them here- I keep meaning to get a bunch as I'd like to use them when I fix up my cupboards.  I figure nice strong magnets should help keep curious puppies from getting into them.

They have a US site as well, just for obvious reasons I usually hit their Canadian site!  :D

That might be a bit more useful to you.  :D

Thanks for the that.  A few years ago I bought some rare earth magnets for my then-young sons to play with.  I ended up storing them outside because they were too pinchy on the fingers.  Almost dangerous, really.  But I've been wanting some more, and this price looks good.

Yeah, it always amazes me how many uses you find for magnets when you have a bunch of them around the house.

Thats a nice set of magnets. Way back during electrical school one of the instructors turned the class on tothe rare earth magnets. He gave us some each to put in our tool belt pouches to keep the fasteners and bits in a ball. Priceless idea to keep the bits at bay. They have been a mainstay ever since.

I think you might like the magnetic sheath I made a little while ago--same idea, just on multitool  :D

Great video Sir. Im gonna mod a belt and put the magnet inside it and see how it works from there. I like the full open carry method alot. Super simple and looks good as well. Sweet dance moves by the way. So everybody gather at the club and do the COMIS!!!

Thank you!  And please share your design with us when it is done, I sure hope someone could come up with a more 'mature' or commercialized solution with this.  :tu:
