Doesn't LM understand that most of us don't care for these on piece tools?
They don't need to make this many just because they ran out of ideas for MTs.

CanadianLMfan,,,,I must respectfully disagree.  I see one piece tools(OPT) as fertile ground with much potential.  Ever since Gerber created their Shard(which MT.O sold BTW).  And I'm not a big fan of Gerbers, but even I carry a Shard.
What saddens me is that LM is squandering a great opertunity. And alas, the Croc proves that point,  hence it should be renamed the "RUNT".  So the present designers need to do some rethinking on their part.  Or have the designer actually talk to fulltime OPT makers.

If it wasn't for the remodelling of the Surge, which on the whole looks like a promising refinement even if it is a cost management exercise too (even though it's too big a tool for me), I'd be getting very worried about Leatherman right now. Quality declines, introductions of budget tools, venturing into new product lines that few seem interested in are all signs that would normally have me concerned about a company's long term stability.

The Surge's refinements do however seem well thought through in terms of the tool itself and of cost management, so maybe they're going to start phasing in more "refinements" rather than banking on the one-piece "gadgety crap" market to see them through any hardship. Maybe they'll even consider making an affordable Juice type tool with the quality issues addressed

It is thinner but has anyone tried using it. I use mine it works just fine. I used it to take the bolts off of the railing and to pry on a couple things just to see if it would flex or break.

The problem is they already have an awesome team, they bought Pockettool X, and most of us here were very excited to see what cool OPTs the Pockettool X team could make with the LM backing them, financing and providing marketing a advertising for them. But we haven't seen much good come out of it. The best tools in their OPT line up are still the ones they took over from the PTX. :-\

LM, I'm still hoping. Please don't let us down. :salute:

I imagine it would be strong enough if they used the right materials. Could you or Metro maybe post some side by side of the PocketWrench II and the CROC? I think most of us see the lack of the finishing touch here as compared to the previous offerings from both LM and PTX. It looks like an unfinished Piranha cut in half.

That is a very good point. Makes me wonder if anyone from ptx is still part of the team... Yea, I will do it tonight.

I really don't see the larger appeal for one piece tools.  I have carried a PWII in the past and I never used it.  I need to pry and turn bolts at work all the time and my Multi usually handles it.  I can't get enough leverage for real tasks even with a pocket widgy bar.  To me OPT's are gimmicks for your keychain and nothing more.

I can get on board with them though, because as a gadget freak I still like to buy and carry OPT's in my bags as back ups, but when you make a cheap copy of your own tool it reeks of decline.  Sorry LM, but that's how you look right now.

If you're part of the right audience, the OPTs are a godsend, hands down. I can't count how many times I've had to use the Piranha for one thing or another since my purchase of it. Was an easy sell upon seeing it. Have yet to touch a bolt or nut with it to be honest...  :P

I do agree with you to a large degree on the latter opinion though.

Finally got myself the Sidekick/Croc combo. Not going to open this one just in case they discontinue it after one run. Wish I could though because I want to use the Sidekick.

A bit late and may had already been posted:

Quote from: Anonymous
The Croc was a specialty item Leatherman created specifically at the request of Home Depot for their Black Friday media push. They wanted an item similar to the Piranha, but without the extra bit, to go with one of their best sellers - the Sidekick.

Got one.  :mail:

first impression.  I'm Unimpressed

it seems to me to be to thin really pry anything with it. I've stood on my ptx piranha prying. The old ptx is almost twice as thick.

the wrenches seem to be cut out well and the over all finish of the tool is decent.

I'm going to use it as it was a gift from a friend that asked me too.

I need to use it some before I decided how I feel about it.

I sharpened the croc to a polished flat edge. Not to sharp or dull. A nice clean edge.

scrape's excellent.
