Tomorrow is Rememberance Day

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the guns fell silent, and the War to End All Wars ended.

Except the wars didn't end.

Its time to remember all those service men and women who paid the ultimate price in Service of our Nation, and to give thanks for those who have served, and came back!

They shall not grow old,as we who remain grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun,and in the morning
We will remember them
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Having been raised in a military family this is perhaps the most important day of the year to me, and I'll be spending it looking for scratches in German cars.

You can be guaranteed that I will always stand for the moment of silence no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

In the US I think it's Veteran's Day.  Or used to be called Armistice Day. I may be mistaken though.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.

According to Wikipedia:
Quote
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries.

We don't have this here, maybe because our country fought 4 consecutive wars then, and they finally ended in 1922.
It is a pitty that all those millions of dead soldiers were used as inanimate objects from their country's generals and politicians, exchanged for a few acres of land that would be lost the following day. I respect the Unknown Soldier of every country in the world (even our then enemies) and I detest most goverments, if not all. I suggest reading Erich Maria Remarque''s "Im Westen nichts Neues" and studying Otto Dix's paintings for today.
